Do You Filter Your Intake Air?

I plan to cover my passive intake vents with black panty hose. This will eliminate unwanted light and bugs.

How many of you filter your INTAKE air? It seems that some indoor growers do this with HEPA filters to eliminate mold spores and other spores as well. Is this really advantageous? If so, where should I look for such filters?

Thanks.

I rigged up an active intake and just used a small home A/C filter I do this because old lady has like 5 cats and the hair will get onto the buds if I do not take precautions

I use the cheap furnace filters, keeps hair and bugs out which is all i worry about. I don't see being able to really filter out mold spores and still have a decent air flow. The smaller the holes in the filter means the more its going to slow your air flow, that is why i use the ones that are like a 5 pack for $2, doesn't slow my airflow much but catches the cat hair and bugs. Anyone who has animals or intakes from outside should really filter all intake air.

This is what I'd recommend but if these types of filters are impractical for your op you can use nylon pantyhose or nylons for a filter by stretching a single layer accross the intake tube, somewhere. I use electrical tape to secure the fabric into position. When it gets to dirty change the position to a clean part of the nylon and cut the spent piece off. You can get several filters from a pair of pantyhose.

I pull my fresh air from a crawlspace of about 5' tall...with the intake 3' from the ground....typically less humidity, especially if crawlspace ground is lined with plastic.....I hooked up one of the auto intake cone type filters....just right for a 4" pvc tube.....If I wish to filter further I place a hepa filter on the duct entry to the tent.....works great!

I just filter it so my cool tubes don't have to be wipped every other week. I am in drywall, so i track all kinds of dust into the house. If you had some kind of hepa setup you could filter out the spores ands tuff. IMO not worth the effort. A clean growroom will acheive the same result.

I use Filtrete air cleaning filters. I cut them into sizes I need and stuff them into my grow tents passive intakes. I change it out every month. Made a huge difference for me. Here's a pic of my old filter next to a new sheet after 1 month:

Not to mention that if you filter for spores you'd also have to run your room at positive pressure for it to be effective, thereby blowing lovely scented air all over the rest of your space - not a very good solution for most of us.

Here's the best part of it: installing the cold air intake system is very simple; it is like a ‘do-it-yourself' system. The system works on the principle of amplifying the oxygen obtainable within the engine for combustion with the fuel. The working of cold air intake system in your car

I purchased a receded dryer vent box and retrofitted a basic furnace filter into it.
Works great. Not as much air pressure yes, but its worth it !

With my tent (and its 4" diameter duct intakes) I used what was at hand ..so simply gaffer tapped valved dust masks (P1 Safety, you could use p2 or p3) to each intake :)
A box of them is very cheap from eBay
