Do you give your dog human scraps?

not that much. I figure the expensive dog food we give them is sufficient. I used to give them my bones from steaks and such till I found out that is dangerous. No cooked bones, only raw.

not much as far as what im eating at the moment. i cook a pound of ground venison and brown rice once a week, and I mix with a cup or two of dry dog food everyday. give it to him when we eat dinner. he's usually satisfied enough were he doesn't beg.

of course a snack or two here and there.

Fucking right he eats "people" food. I put left over bacon grease on his dog food. Cook him medium rare liver. He gets a raw egg on his food about every week. If I run out of dry food and don't feel like going to town your damn right he gets a whole plate of spaghetti. He's got a strong enough digestive system to process beef bones, deer bones even chicken bones (yes I know they splinter). Dog is smarter than most college graduates I know. You'd be hard pressed to find a healthier 102lb, slim trim and strong, golden retriever.
Everyone should give their dog a mixed diet of nutritious natural food(s).

I don't believe in hand feeding a dog people food. It makes them beg whenever food is around. If you want to give it to them put it in their dog bowl after you eat.

I hate going to someone's house for dinner and their dog sits around the table winning or begging. Fuck that. My dog goes to his room while we eat he has some respect.

Lead to a premature death? My grandma's been feeding her ugly, fat, annoying mutt everything she eats, which is some of the most unhealthy human food you can get your hands on. That fucking dog just turned 16.

Of course we all think it's because nobody can stand that damn dog so it's going to live for ever.
That's very much the minority of smokers and bacon lovers who make it to their 90's.

The majority of them die prematurely.

Sure there are blips of individuals who live that long, but most die far before they should have.

And by most I mean pretty much all of them.

Don't want to break down our social hierarchy by giving our dogs the same food we eat.

I think it's lived that long just to piss the family off, nobody likes this dog except my grandma and we have no idea why she likes it over her other dog.

We've had other pets that everyone absolutely loved and they've all died prematurely due to some tragic event but this thing keeps on truckin'.

Not really, it pisses and shits on the carpet but it's done that for as long as I can remember. It will go to the door but it won't scratch or bark so if you don't see it it makes a mess. It will bark to come in though, the most annoying sound I've ever heard and loud too. That's the only time it makes noise, to come in from outside and when it wants food.

My gran lived til 91 and she ate bacon. She also smoked cigarettes but rarely. I think her long lived life was attributed to that litre bottle of whiskey she drank each week! :)

I feel this way.
If you are gonna get irate later in life when the dog stares at you and sits as close as possible
while you eat than never give them human food.

If on the other hand you enjoy seeing him eat good food with you and can teach him manners than go for it.

I think quality of life is more important than living 6 months extra with a mouth full of dry kibble.

For the most part my dog only eats dry food and sometimes i mix in wet food. Sometimes when the kids leave there scraps behind or drop there food on the floor i give it to my dog. Last week i was BBQ and a big giant stake fell to the ground!
I was like fuck! We had more than enough food but just the thought of wasting food.. my dog was outside with me and u could just see him wagging his tail... He knew he was going to eat good dinner that day! Fuqer!:weed:

I loved all my dogs. Around the holidays I like to mix up a Holiday Doggy Bowl Treat consisting of avocados, chocolate, and macadamias mixed with a shot of Jim Beam and some xylitol to sweeten it up. They didn't live long after that for some reason. The good news is that dogs are pretty cheap, and there are SO many of them at the local pound, so no big deal...
