Do you remove smaller buds and lower buds?

I currently am trying out something. I cut out all popcorn buds, and anything thats not getting enough light. The hopes are the plant focuses more on the larger colas. Is there an science behind this?

That's the theory, though I don't know anyone who tried a comparison. Personally I kept my popcorn buds and processed them with the trim leaves for more trichome goodness. To each their own. Good luck.

to me, if there growing its all good no need to chop em out. but you are correct, the plant will focus on the larger colas.
i believe thats where you see these prize winning buds. although you rarly see the cola photoed with anything for size comparison. much like these micro grows and mini grows under a ts600 from mars or other led light, no size comparissons

It's not so much a science as it is an artform...

I leave mine on. I feel that if you miss them (I do my last defol at the end of week 2 flower), then I leave them on so that I'm not adding any stress to the plant later in bloom. I haven't done any comparisons personally, I'm still new to all this, but that is the impression I am under. I think if you plan to lollipop from the beginning and you do it correctly, it seems to be great. My buddy lollipops everything and gets some real nice colas, and all dense nice bud. I'm not sure he is harvesting more because of that though... we have the same size tent and while mine is a lot more bushy and the colas aren't quite as big, I am going to have a significant amount of weight in littles and larf... some of which looks pretty damn good too. The airy stuff I am going to wash and make bubble with. I plan on running the same clones on my next run and I am going to strip them down big time, as I want to see the difference. I have another tent going where I did no topping or training as well, just to get an idea of that too. Our outdoor plant may have less colas but the un-topped one is like twice the size, way more icy, stinks more and is far more dense... I might try not topping and just doing one big ass cola or maybe a cpl depending if the branches keep up. Sorry, I kinda went off on a tangent there... this Donny Burger is hittin right now. lol

There's no science behind it just wishful thinking on the growers part, in reality the plant has PTSD from missing it's limbs ( i just made this all up but whatevs)

the main reason for removing the small buds is that it is a very annoying work to trim them

(the buds will get bigger when all the small growth is removed but this also highers(?) the risk for bud rot)

I personall prefer growing small to middlesized buds, less chance of bud rot, dry quicker etc.

Everything that doesn't receive adequate light get chopped. I like to smoke potent fully developed flowers. Sure you can argue that with partial harvest you can get a little more yield. The time and effort is not worth it IMO.

That being said I still partial harvest and always lollipop.

I lollipop and thin things out.
I have not done done side by side comparison. But I know I am pulling a little less weight but my trimming is nice and easy. And I prefer 9 Oz of nice dence stuff over 6oz of prime and 6 Oz of fluff.

But you with find people that agree with me and people that think I’m a idiot. I’m ok with it.
