Does a quick light leak really cause hermies?

Where does the”light during dark causes hermies come from” and how true is it. I’ve always been told that even if you enter a dark garden and the door is open for even a couple seconds that if light leaks in it can herm your plant. After smoking I was thinking about it. How sensitive are they? I mean what about guys that grow in their backyard in the city? The back yard light go on or the neighbors out grillin some burgers. How about deep in the forest and they drive up on their house/grow and the car lights hit it or when they turn the bathroom light on or off. Outside it’s very hard to protect against unintended light so just how sensitive are they?

I enter my room for thirty minutes or so once a week during dark hours

It is the folks who keep checking in their tent that have issues

I shine my gunlight on them all the time when i go out in the morning hunting...ive messed up daily timing on light dep, ive opened light dep during day while flowering...all this during flowering and no hermies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I once had a timer jam on for 2-3 days without incident.
I've a green headlight light that's what I use now if I need to go into the tent.

If you think about plants needing 40-50w psf then a torch or car light etc is pretty insignificant.. I think?

I’ve had the wife use the red light(instead of the green) on the headlamp to water daily for a week and I’ve had the power go out a few times and had to restart hours off schedule. On top I have popped in quickly a few times when it was dark. One of my plants a cheese is going hermie but the others that are a different are fine and I suspect it’s unrelated

I just flip on the light switch complete my task and flip it back off
It isn't that likely TBH

Dr. Bugbee of Utah State is studying the effects of light leaks. Per Dr. Bugbee some literature shows cannabis "exquisitely sensitive" to light leaks. Moonlight does not affect it but it might not take much more than that. They are still studying this topic.
