Does legalization really matter?

Lets forget legalization and work on decriminalization. I can see why they would want it controlled, we don't need millions of stoned people walking around the streets looking at shiny things. (I know how stereotypical that is, but face it we have all done some silly shit while stoned.) If it was just decriminalized so we could use it in the comfort of our own homes, after hours, and enjoy the spare time we have, without fear of being jailed for it, that would make everyone happy no?

Decriminalization will most likely happen well before legalization. And abandon all hope for deregulation. The big problem for government in legalization lies in the uncontrolled 'under the table" economics it would cause.

Can you imagine the rush to grow shops to buy equipment? Then, a couple months later the amount of unaccounted for weed and cash flying around? Economic madness on a national scale.

Pot could not be made legal as in everyone could legally grow pot without undercutting the one reason that might possibly pressure the government to legalize it, that being tax revenues. It would have to be something along the lines of tobacco growers, only certain people being allowed to grow certain amounts that could be checked and tested and taxed on each sale between the grower and the consumer. It would not be the kind of system we would like since what we do would remain illegal. But the government will never just say, go ahead everyone, grow however much you want of whatever you want. That would remove the incentive for the government to legalize pot because the government would know that it would only collect a small portion of the tax revenues that it could otherwise collect.

If the government could not count on the projected tax revenues the government would see a better choice to allow only pharmaceutical corporations to work with pot and sell medications derived from it. When you combine the tax revenues from that and the profits from the tentative government plan to be the one and only supplier of pot for pharmaceutical corporations the total revenues would dwarf a free for all legalization.

Anyone is allowed to grow tobacco. Unless you require serious connosuer tobacco and you have the seeds why would you grow it? When marijuana becomes readily available the only people who will take the trouble to grow it themsleves will be old timer hold outs who want supper heady nugs and would rather DIY anyway.

That's probably quite true. Legalized would allow people with far most assets than most to set up large grows. Those large grows would make prices drop like a rock. No incentive to grow your own..unless you're working with a designer strain.

If no one thinks that legalization of every drug is a good idea, then no one has a brain. Legalize personal responsibility and freedom. The mob does not have the right to tell adults what substances they may possess and use. I can't believe that even on a forum like this I would find so many in favor government legislating morality. WTF?
You're confused on what I said.

I said, of course no one thinks legalizing every drug is a good idea. In other words, I do think it's a good idea to legalize all drugs. Let the idiots kill themselves off while they binge on heroin and crack, I don't have a problem with that.
