Does Red Light cause more stretch than pure Dark?

10 x Deep Red 660 nm and 2 x far Reds 730 nm. 30 watts

Does anyone here know if I used for Veg 18 hours white light 6 hours Red light, if Id get more Stretch than using the standard 18/6
( 18 light /6 dark)?

we know plants stretch when moving to 12 light 12 dark

So we know plants stretch in the dark, do we know if they stretch more under red light though, in comparison to the dark period?

thoughts?

Interesting thought, something you might need to try. I've done this with 5k cfls and yes, it did reduce stretch, never tried it with red light.

What happens if the plant shuts down during a part of the white light and uses the red light to veg? Kind of a mind fuck haha.

It's not the light spectrum that causes plants to stretch it is the disparity between hours of dark and light. The sun doesn't go from an 18/6 to a 12/12 light cycle overnight. Plants have evolved on earth to trigger flowering at a certain amount of light/dark. So to reduce stretching gradually reduce the hours of light. You can induce a plant to both flower and veg at the same time just as it happens in outdoor grows.
Try dropping the light from 18/6 to 17/7 for a week. Then go to 16/8 the next week. The plants will start to preflower and some strains will even start throwing pistils at around 15/9. This is a very cool way to sex out your plants too; once you see who's a boy and who's a girl you can re-veg for a monster yield or choose to continue straight into full bloom phase. Works best under proper lighting; if the plants are stretching to the light due to a lack thereof that's a different story.

Im using 4ft led tube daylight 5000k i have 5 on 6 plants. They should be bout read to bloom should i add red light as well for blooming

The red from say an hps will cause plants to be a little more leggy in veg. But if you're worried about how tall your plants are going to be come flower, just keep your day/night temps the same through flower stretch. It inhibits gibberellins and will have a significant effect on controlling stretch.
