Does the NM value of a LED matter?

I have a microgrow box with 3 cfls. Ive build a custom air vented light reflector. There is no room for more lights, except if i supplement it with LED's. Now... do i go with warm white (3000k veg) and super white (6000k bloom) or can i use the blue led's for veg and red for flower. I have both types of led's from a couple years ago and am wondering if there is a special LED color or NM values used for grow lights eg. LED UFO

Help please.

well first off you have your spectrums mixed, you would want the 6000k for veg and 3000k for bloom...i used 6500k and 2700k...i have no experience with LEDs, so i cant really give you any credible advice, but for the most part id say stick with the spectrum best suited for your stage of growing, so if your vegging, stick the 6000-6500k led in there...hope that helped a little lol
 
Oops lol. I meant for the spectrums to be the other way around. thx mmccrory

Im just wondering if the regular blue and red non diffused t3 LED will actually put out useful light for my plants

haha true, wish i could help you bro, but the only LEDs i use are in my flashlight lol.....wait, arent those like the LEDs your talking about? ive never looked into growing with them...hmmm, now im interested if that would work...subscribed incase anyone has useful info
 
yeah those are the lights i talk about. My grand scheme is to build a kind of octopus arm setup with leds at the end of each arm. and have them bendable like a pipe cleaner. that way the cfl's will light the top of the plant and the led's could light the bottom leaves and any low light areas. you could also point them directly at a bud while flowering. If i get the right lights it will be a fun adventure. LOL
 
The NM or wave length does make a difference. Peak chlorophil production for veg is with a BLUE 460 NM LED and flowering is RED 650 NM LED.




This means..... if you find the right place to buy LED's, know how to solder and calculate resister values, you could grow your own LED grow light at a fraction of the cost!!
