Does this look ready?

Hi all. This is an unknown strain growing in FF soil under two 400 watt hps lights. They vegged for eight weeks, and are now in their eighth week of flower. For vegging I fed them liquid seaweed, and for flowering they've been getting FF Big Bloom and sometimes misted with a dilute solution of worm poop and water.

They look a little crispy but after noticing this about a week ago I moved the lights as far up as I can. There is at least 4-5 ft distance between the plants and the lights. There is always a fan on them when the lights are on and I keep the door open for circulation. I don't know what the deal is with that.

Anyways, in person they dont' look done. In the photos they kinda do. Any thoughts? (Sorry for the bad lighting)

I believe I am inclined to wait, just as you say. I just remember reading somewhere that if they get too ripe, it will be a very couchlock-type high which I'm not entirely fond of (but wouldn't kick it out of bed). I'm trying to avoid that tipping point but also afraid to cut them down too soon. Thanks! :peace:

get a microscope my man look at the trich's that will help with the type of high ur lookin for...lookin good tho

I have a jeweler's loop to see up close. So, let me ask you. The "trichs" that are supposed to be 50/50 amber/clear... are those the teeny tiny protuberances, not the long stringier ones (which as you can see are currently at around 50/50 right now)?

yeah the big ones are pistils, those can also show ripeness when they go amber but its the pistils going amber and the trichrome heads that you need to look at, those bunch of tiny tiny balls that if they're clear or cloudy they give u an uplifting high, or they turn amber and it get ur knocked out

you have a ways to go, the pistils will brown and kind of recede into the caylx which will also swell up a bunch when its done flowering or really close to the end. this is from fdd's tutorial on harvesting-


we will start with ripeness. most people say to check your trichromes with 30X magnification. i have other ways. when buds are done they look "done". the appearance of the bud changes. the leaves start to hook upwards and become hard and crispy. the calyxes will swell and the hairs will turn brown. you can see a golden tinge to the bud leaves. this is the amber crystals. they start to turn amber on the leaves first.

I totally agree. The buds turn a slight shade of brown, but the swollen calyxes are the most tell tale sign IMHO. Rep for that post DD420!!!!

I agree with letting you decide what kind of high you would like.

Im a fan of stoney shit, so Im letting my white widow go a week past when I think its done... If I were to pick it soon(after a heavy flush of course) It would still be a delicate heady high, almost invigorating, instead of the world ending, sleep inducing, nightmarish shit I prefer.

And I believe it depends on what strain your growing, but a ton of those hairs will turn colored before its done growing all the way. Not all plants, but most strains will have lovely reddish hairs at least 75% the color red. then I pick my bud if the hairs and trichromes are looking up to spec.

Hi all! So it's been 5 days since the last post. I think the plants are ready for harvest because they're not growing anymore and they just look "ready" to me. They are at exactly 8 weeks of flowering. They just look like they're tired of growing. Call it a vibe I'm getting from them. HOWEVER, I just took a good look at the leaves with a 10X magnifying glass and didn't see any milky trichomes, let alone amber ones. How can this be? How can the plant look "done" but not be done?

I will very much appreciate opinions of anyone familiar with this same situation or with helpful opinions. I'm very tempted to start cutting tonight. Sorry the lighting is so bad in the pics. It's so bad that you really can't tell what's what there. Anyways, advice about that is also appreciated!

they kinda look done but i swear you will get so much more trichomes on them if you let them sit in complete dark for bout a week or couple days or so.

Okay, well with that helpful advice, I can wait at least until the holiday weekend to harvest. Which is not to say that a wee bit won't be sneaked and dried before then!

Hi everyone! Well, looks like god decided it was time to harvest because my house got infested with gnats and I had to harvest before those nasties got to my plants.

So, I have a question about manicuring the buds: I found it very difficult to bring myself to cut leaves that are covered with trichs so my buds don't look as tight as some pics I've seen on here. Am I supposed to cut those off? Oh, maybe they tighten up as they dry (newbie here)?

Also a question for you horticulturist smarties out there: These plants came from seeds that came from some very seedy weed. This is my second grow using those same seeds, and I have yet to sprout a male plant. I've studied pics online and been on the lookout from the start, but no boys. Is that a statistical miracle, or might there be something else genetic going on? :peace:

BTW, notice the clothes rack as pot hanger!!

Lookin good but you should cut the leaves covered in trich's before you dry the buds, otherwise it will be a bitch to trim after. Also you can keep the cuttings and make butter/hash. It is no statistical miracle it is a good job of growing on your part. Even though a plant can carry hermi traits genetically I think that it still has to be stressed out of the plant one way or another. :D good luck and cure em for a good while.
