Does topping increase yield or just spread bud sites evenly?

Topping spreads out budsites and evenly distributes the bud, which accommodates lighting and bud support for the plant.

thanks for the reply so i would get the same yield but the buds would just be smaller?
Yes pretty much, depending on the strain it could either increase yield or just distribute the buds evenly without don't outweight the single cola you could've had. All depends. If space is a factor, I'd recommend LST or topping.

Ive read that when the plant is indica dominant it will increase yield by topping..not so much with a sative.

IMO i think that it does also increase yeild. i have only had about 15 plants under my belt, but i had 4 grape punch clones, topped 2 and left 2 to grow naturally. i got 54 grams off of the topped plants and 38 grams off of the ones i let do their thing. and all the plants were vegged for the same amount of time

I personally like topping, space is a factor for me and it's a great technique IMO. Gives more light to the canopy.

I like to top as well as space is an issue so i like to top and LST them kind of early on to keep them under control and give even light distribution to the cannopy. i believe that topping increases yield although im no expert just my 2 cents

hmm, i thought topping was the process in which you cut off the top (not FIM) and it split into 2 or more colas? if so, i dont see what you mean by increasing light penetration without also incorporating lst in some fashion (in fact, i would say without the lst you would lose light pen). are you sure you are not referring to supercropping?

as far as i know, 'topping' will just about always increase your yield in some sort of manner, small or large. its when you top to the point of having 6 colas that you start losing yield (hormones are split between too many budsites, resulting in multiple undergrown colas).

i could be wrong, just throwing that out there.
