Dog hair in soil?

I know this is a awkward question, but my parents keep knocking over my pots and now there's dog hair in one, I heard good things about it but I need a professional answer to this. Will the hair give the soil protein or something good? Or will it hurt it or the plant. Thanks.

Hair isn't going to add any nutrients but could help alter the structure of the soil in a beneficial way. It won't hurt you as long as you don't get it stuck in the buds.

why would u want hair in there that can eventually work its way & potential bind up ur roots? I cant see any benefit, not to mention to potential microrganisms that r on the pet hair (dust, dander, etc) could in no way be good for the plant, imo.

There is no way hair is going to bind up the roots or choke them in anyway - it's not like the hair is growing in the dirt, its just there motionless. If anything roots will use the hairs to travel along helping them slightly to move through the soil. The microorganism that live on the dog will all die without the dog present and in no way will harm a plant.

Contamination of spider mites is the only negative I can think of.

Alright guys thanks for the help, like I said it wasn't on purpose, pot fell to floor, and dog hair got in it, not a large amount but its noticable. When I have time I'll pluck them out I suppose.

Quite a bit of coco comes with fibers longer than dog hair. Coco, like hair, is an inert medium. I'm not saying to add more but don't worry about plucking all the hair out of your soil (unless you are ridiculously high and this is fun for you). Want to know a secret? I add my own hair to my compost - helps keep the animals away and helps aerate my mix.

That's very informative, thanks
