One of my friends clones (white widow) He doesn't use domes.
Male cutting in water. Wants it to flower for some of the pollen.
doesn't care if it roots or not. This is an example of why IMO domes are over rated.
thats a good size cutting going for ten days now he said.

domes have their place imo :eyesmoke:

EDIT: let's see the roots, i have had cuttings thrive for as long as 2 weeks without roots and that's where the money is with cloning imo

To many variables involved in this game for elimination of a necessity for some .. And not every strain will root in a cup of water by the way !
I wouldn't advise others of such , it will only add more confusion to the mass that we have here ..

I've cut a clone that lasted over two weeks before showing root. I was worried about it taking so long but she stayed green and is doing extremely well now.

That's not any different than when you use a bubble cloner, they don't need them.. Rockwool, soil, etc. that's a diff matter.

He never prepared the cutting to be rooted. It's just a male he wants the pollen from.
gonna flower it out in that Dixie cup.

It just goes to show you don't need a dome.

My mother takes cuttings of geraniums this way.

She fills a glass with water covers the top with clear plastic wrap and pushes her cuttings through the plastic and leaves them by a window.

Its nothing new to most.

I've played around with it a couple of times. But now its easier for me to put a small tray of clones in rockwool into a small propogator within my room, than having multiple cups of water that could be knocked over.

Gonna flower without roots? And just where is it gonna get it's nutrients from?

It should live long enough in the water to produce a few pollen sacs. I don't know if you've had cuttings in water, but they live for a long time.

I do all my cuttings in water.. Change the water daily o every other day, you can keep a rooted cutting in pure water, no nutes for a good long time in ph'd tap water.. she will grow, get green, grow big leaves, grow massive roots.. just keep changing the 'tap' water. I've got lazy and kept them growing in water until they got so big I was afraid the little cup would fall over. Give it a try.. if you have plants, you have enough side shoots to play with likely. Win some and lose some, learn a few things on the way I always say.

I thought they would have to build roots before they start upper growth.. Learn something everday

i think domes are useful in my cloning experience because they reduce transpiration of the plant and allow it to put more energy into rooting. I know this can be done without a dome, the dome just increases speed of rooting (4-7 days). Cup methods always taken me ~2 weeks and then bubble cloners are about the same as dome and aero would be the quickest (which has no dome of course, like bubble cloning, and cup cloning) but hey just my experience with all of it. of course domes arent used with the other methods but when i do do rockwool and rapid rooters i use a dome with great success

Let me see if I understand this right. You are saying you don't need domes because of 1 example?

Let's put it to a test. Take 100 clones without domes and take 100 clones with domes and see how many of those 100 turn out without domes and how many of those 100 turn out with domes.

Until then, you have nothing to base this thread on except a guess.

dude........... your gonna get better results w the water ..........but its gonna take a week longer
