Trump sues Jan. 6 panel to block records
Former President Trump on Monday filed a federal lawsuit against the Jan. 6 select committee seeking to block the panel from obtaining his administration's records from the National Archives.
"The Committee’s request amounts to nothing less than a vexatious, illegal fishing expedition openly endorsed by Biden and designed to unconstitutionally investigate President Trump and his administration," the lawsuit reads. "Our laws do not permit such an impulsive, egregious action against a former President and his close advisors."
"As it relates to any materials being sought in situations like this, where fundamental privileges and constitutional issues are at stake and where a committee has declined to grant sufficient time to conduct a full review, there is a longstanding bipartisan tradition of protective assertions of executive privilege designed to ensure the ability to make a final assertion, if necessary, over some or all of the requested material," the lawsuit reads.
The lawsuit argues that the committee has not demonstrated a legitimate legislative purpose for the documents that would override the former president's assertions of executive privilege.
Taylor Budowich, a spokesman for Trump, tweeted on Monday, "Today, President Trump filed a lawsuit in defense of the Constitution, the Office of the President, and the future of our nation, all of which the sham Unselect Committee is trying to destroy."

Trump defends indicted GOP congressman
Former President Trump defended Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.) in a statement Tuesday night shortly after the GOP lawmaker was indicted by a federal grand jury.
Fortenberry was charged with one count of scheming to conceal material facts and two counts of making false statements to federal investigators after allegedly concealing information about illegal contributions to his 2016 campaign.
“Isn’t it terrible that a Republican Congressman from Nebraska just got indicted for possibly telling some lies to investigators about campaign contributions, when half of the United States Congress lied about made up scams,” Trump said in his statement.
He also referenced frequent targets Hillary Clinton and James Comey, saying they lied with no repercussions.
“[T]hey made up fairy tales about me knowing how badly it would hurt the U.S.A.—and nothing happens to them. Is there no justice in our Country?” he concluded.

New York county launches new investigation into Trump Organization
The Westchester County district attorney's office has subpoenaed records from Trump National Golf Club Westchester and the town of Ossining, which determines property taxes for the course, The New York Times reported.
The Times reported that the investigation will focus on whether the Trump Organization misled officials regarding the course's value in an effort to pay less taxes on the property.
"The Club’s request for a review of its tax assessments was amicably resolved earlier this year and signed off by the Town Board, the Town Assessor, Special Counsel for the Town (who determined the settlement to be both 'appropriate and in the best interests of the Town of Ossining'), the Briarcliff Manor School District, the Office of the Westchester County Attorney and the Westchester County Supreme Court judge presiding over the matter," a spokesperson for the Trump Organization said in an email to The Hill.
"Accordingly, the suggestion that anything was inappropriate is completely false and incredibly irresponsible. The witch hunt continues," the statement added.
Miriam Rocah, the Westchester district attorney and a Democrat, has not accused anyone at the Trump Organization of any wrongdoing thus far, according to the Times. It remains unclear if any charges will be considered or if the former president's own actions will be investigated.

A beta launch of the site for "invited guests" is expected in November, with a full launch in the first quarter of 2022.
The site's upcoming launch was coupled with the announcement that Trump Media & Technology Group has entered into a definitive merger agreement with Digital World Acquisition Corp. that will allow it to become a publicly listed company.
