Dr Earth or Foxfarm

OK so i have some extra cash and i decided to start off by getting a whole set of nutrients. I have a few diffrent choices and have been researching for a while but still dont know what my best choice would be. Im down to 2 products that i cant decide between the price is almost the same.
Fox Farm:
Liquid Nutrient Trio Soil Formula—Big Bloom®, Grow Big® and Tiger Bloom®

Dr Earth:

So these are my last 2 choices: I like the Dr Earth because it has a lot of good stuff to give the soil life, lots of Mycorrhizae and Humic acid and its organic. The only thing that is pushing me away from using this is that i have never seen a journal grow with only Dr Earth.

Foxfarm on the other hand well i dont really know what in the mix but i have found plenty of journals with great grows using Fox Farms.


So what do you all recommend, o yeah it going to be a soil grow.

First, Bottled nutes are (in my opinion) nothing but chemicals. Dont waste time with those overpriced nutes. I use a line of products that cost me $20.00 for one grow and I just harvested 1 1/2lb on a pretty modest grow. It would be difficult to lay out my process but do searches for "real organic indoor growing" Thats where I started and let me tell you I went from 4-5 oz harvest to a 1/2lb , this last 1 & 1/2

I don't know anything about Dr. Earth, or organic nutes, but for a first time grower FF is pretty reliable. I would go with which one you feel the most comfortable with. Check out their websites and look at their recommended feeding schedules. Then pick the one that is best for you.

Looks like the DR. Earth is geared more for mineral soil(outdoors). Notice the high P content in proportion to N and K? Fox Farms is hard to beat for ease of use. And dont worry about theFF soluables. They are also geared more for mineral soil use...

I also use the ff line works great for me and my plants,very easy to follow feeding plan,easy on the pocket,and great results. I will say make sure you start out at 1/4 strength and work your way up to 1/2 or 3/4 strength

I'm wondering the same thing. I've used fox farm for years with good results, but I've been to the Dr. Earth website and will be trying their goodies on my next grow.

Has anyone tried ffof with dr earth dry amendments? If so, which did you use?
And by that I mean, basically just top feeding and POSSIBLY a lower layer of dry amendments in the soil?

Hands down Dr.Earth over FF TRIO ...

Dr. Earth 3-3-3 Liquid is a great nute , general purpose.
Flower Girl ( powder ) great bloom fertilizer .... Homegrown or Premium Gold way better than Megacrop.
I use Dr. Earth with my layered soil blends and dropped bottles .

See Sig for layered mix ...

Or run this ( my layered approach ) , you can add a scoop of Dr. Earth to to “ recharge “ mix or introduce 1Tbls per gallon of container soil ( mild mix , Pro mix , or heavy peat mix ) / 3 - 4 Tbls for 3 to 5 gallons intermixed with medium for a “ charged “ medium that will only need occasional top dress or in your own established container grows - scratch in amount listed for use ( scoop on top soil ) work it in then water ..... all stupid simple.

FF trio is way strong on plants .... big bloom is the only organic of the 3 and would keep for teas / soil drenching .

I use strictly Dr. Earth and my girls are doing well.. I can link my journal if you want. It's really easy. I've done FF and this is ten times easier and honestly organic is better anyway.

Some people use the all purpose dry amendment throughout their grow. Not recommended, but it's possible if you're that short on cash. Dr. Earth is also very cost effective.

I’m on my first grow here, straight into ffof after germinating (paper towel)....babies seem to be doing fine, maybe even great. I know ffof can run too hot, I don’t think that’s the case for me currently...but what does concern me is when the nutes run out. I really don’t like the idea of bottle nutes, which is why I’m curious about dry organic stuff. I just don’t know what I would need, and if I can or even should layer it with ffof in a 3 gallon pot. Or just top dress? Top feeding just seems to make the most sense to me for my current situation. I have a big bag of ffof and want to use it up before trying anything else

Thank you for the pic! That actually answered my question, top feed grow basically is what I was looking for. Only because my little ones are already planted.
I think I’ll get a more mild medium to mix for the upper layer on my next seeds because I really don’t want to take the chance of killing them due to the strength of ffof. That way I can add in the other amendments and still top feed.
Which brings me to my next question, which ones would I currently need just to top feed? 4-4-4 and 2-9-4?

Hello, everyone. I finished my first grow recently, netting me 1.5oz from one plant using the fox farms trio as nutes and a less-than ideal growing medium of mostly cheap peat moss. (Anyone dealt with Thrips before?) I'd like to try again. I've learned quite a bit since then, and would like to...

Alright man I posted a short and sweet update with pictures. Dr. Earth has been extremely nice and easy to use and I'm sticking with it because of that fact. I've also started a new photoperiod bagseed grow with a mix of coco/perlite/Dr. Earth Pot of Gold soil. So far, the seedlings have been reacting really well to it. I'm planning on transplanting into the same mix with added dry amendments.
