I used a shop vac for a long time, and having one is pretty much a must when running hydro. I just use a cheap bucket lid one:
The Powerhead Wet/Dry Vac, with a 1.75 peak HP* motor and a 1-1/4 in. x 4 ft. hose, is great for smaller jobsite messes. Made to take on dirty, grimy messes that may require instant disposal, the powerhead bucket vacuum is designed for the jobsite or garage for quick and cost-effective cleanup...

I really got tired of having to vac runoff all the time though, so found these drain-away trays that work great:
The world's best plant drain tray. Love potted plants but hate the mess? With The Drain Away Drain Tray you can now have beautiful potted plants on your deck, around your pool, or in front of your business without the mess of staining your area with the plant's water run off. Made in the USA!

I connect 4 of these together in a 4'x4' tent, and have them all drain into a condensate pump, which pumps the runoff out of the tent.
