Dried up and dying pistils!!!

Hey guys, my plants about two weeks into flower and i noticed that some of its pistils seem dried up and shriveled. Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 of my plants turned out male but I removed them as soon as I noticed the sacks and the balls were pretty small so I don't think they released any pollen. Fortunately however, the biggest plant ended up being female and this is the one with the dried up pistils. The temps are around mid 80's in the closet, i water once every other day with about a gallon and I'm currently using roots organics bloom nutes. I'm using cfls so I'm keepin em pretty close but not too close to burn the pistils, only a few leaf tips. Any ideas what this could be?

unless you sprayed with some substance like Safers Soap the only thing that would cause that is pollination.
If so it's not the end of the world you'll just have some seedy weed.

I did spray with some neem oil and protekt mixed with water a few days ago so maybe that caused it. When do males usually release their pollen? I thought I removed them pretty early but I could be wrong. That would really suck to have seedy bud.

takes a almost a week after you notice them, probably the neem oil or protekt

None knows why pistols turn brown.

Hello friend. Assuming all conditions being stable and normal, as the flower starts to mature, a small number of the pistils will change colour from white to brown, then shrivel. This is a natural process of ripening. As the flower further matures, more and more pistils will brown off. When more than 80% of the pistils brown off towards the end of the flowering cycle the plant is ready for harvest.

Really? I've got the same thing going on with my plants and they are not pollinated. I'm not growing for the first time, but I'm growing from absolute start to absolute finish for the first time and I've never seen buds ripen and hairs shriveling up at the same time. In fact most sites say look for when a certain percentage of your hairs start to turn red, then of course, the key is to pay attention to trichome color. I've got a 45x pocket microscope but it is hard to determine exactly what's a clear trichome and what's cloudy one. It's easier to determine amber I suppose but still...So, if a person is slightly in doubt on the trichomes, he or she is likely to use easier naked eye cues, like how the pistols change color and if the pistols start to dry up, one might think the plant is getting over-ripe and it might be true with some strains, but it seems from what I'm slowly learning that with my Big Bud XXL strain, the hairs almost all shrivel up well before the trichomes are what I think is cloudy. Anyway, it's nice to hear that Bud King thinks it is normals to lose the pistols. I really wasn't sure and have had trouble finding information on this. Yo Bud King, do you have any links to more information on this? Where can I read some of the articles you've written?
