I have designed a simple drip irrigation system and thought id share. I am also interested in peoples watering schedules. I am contemplating experimenting with multiple small watering's instead of one large water every 2 days, 2 small watering for example 250ml 2x a day similar to that of coco.
lets begin, First here are the parts and design of my drip system. I'm sure you can build something cheaper if you sourced the parts yourself but buying everything in a kit kept it simple. and I doubt i would have saved that much. you can also use poly pipe if you prefer instead of pvc.
Parts list:
1)Canna-12 kit - 2.2 gph drip emitter manifold
2)Vacuum Breaker 3/4" Hose Thead Anti Siphon Backflow Preventer for Drip Irrigation.
3) Titan Controls Apollo 18 Two Outlet Dual Schedule Digital Timer
4) Simple Deluxe 400 GPH UL Listed Submersible Pump (amazon)
5) 3/4 pvc / 1/2 pvc pipe
6) 3/4 & 1/2 threaded couplers and reducers however many you need for your build (home depot)
Ultimately it goes Pump connected to the timer, turns on once a day for two minutes. water flows up the 3/4 pvc into the anti siphon > Inline filter > Pressure regulator 25psi > 3/4 to 1/2 reducer > 1/2 pvc > 12 port 2.2gph pressure compensating manifolds > drip line stakes > pots > pump turns off anti siphon prevents flooding the room and allows you to keep your reservoir full for long vacations
Put it together in this order, I highly suggest you get the filter and Anti siphon... it prevents flooding the garden and clogging your manifolds. for 20$.
Pumps you will need to scale dependent on your grow obviously and how many manifolds / far you need to run pipe. The pressure regulator is probably uneccesarry for my sized pump but if you went bigger it might be a good idea.
The Apollo 18 is a solid timer, I wish it could control things down to seconds but I cant find a timer this quality/price that does seconds. I run for 2 minutes a day.
2.2gph = 8327.91 ML / 60 = 138 ml/min x2 = 277.5 ML/day
I feed my big girls anywhere from 600-900 ppm, I really don't watch my PH much, my city water is good 180ppm 7.5ph so it works out to 6.5ish.
the daily watering in promix hp is only possible because my girls are drinking fast in 5 gallon pots. you need to adjust your feed schedule and ppm accordingly it will take time. I started off at 277ml/3days - 2days - 1 day. It allows the soil to dry up and the pot to slightly lighten, about 50% but it does not allow the soil to dry out completely. I do not have any signs of over/under watering. I do water some of my girls by hand, every 2/3 days that aren't on my drip. The frequent watering appears to work as well if not better. which is why im interested in experimenting more with small waterings.
Please share your watering schedules, systems, medium type etc. I know traditionally large waters have been the thing but you cant deny the efficacy of multi watering as we see with coco.
