Got some bubble bags and plan on trying this out - looks super easy. Wondering if anyone out there has any experience, and maybe some do's and dont's? Would appreciate any insight. Dry ice or just ice?

What Im really wondering is if its dabbable?

Thanks for the help guys.

Yes. Dry ice only.

Use a 180 or 220 micron bag. Shake till you see a bit of green flakes then stop.
Dabable? Sure. Just pop some of that loose kief in a pipe and light it up. Same thing.

Quick. Easy. Least mess. Tastes excellent and hits hard.

But if you want purity there are better ways to go.

Not for me though. I do dry ice only and press it.

Bubble bags are fun. Make sure you keep them clean and the screens free of dried resin. After every use, I wash my bags in hot soapy water, give them a good rinse, let them dry, and then dip the screens in iso., wiping them with a clean cloth and re-dipping in iso, as needed. Holding them up to a light source helps you see how clean they really are.

If you want something that's full melt, I wouldn't use dry ice. The basic problem with the dry ice method is the amount of contaminant you'll shake thru the bag with your trichomes. My dry ice runs yield 16—20%. It's a lot less work than bubble. But, the product is inferior. Don't get me wrong, it's still totally smokeable. But, it's not full melt. The problem is, if you use dry ice chunks and you're not super gentle, you'll quickly start pulverizing the cellulose and other non-resinous plant material, regardless of what micron screen you're shaking thru. Next time I run a dry ice batch, I plan to put my dry ice in a blender and fold the resulting 'powdered' ice thru my trim and shake it gently thru a 200 micron bag. I'll then sift that product thru a 160 micron screen. My hope is, if I can keep much of the pulverized contaminant above a 160 micron screen, I can filter some of it out, without pulverizing it any further. Anyway, we'll see...

Now, when it comes to water-ice extraction, your bags will make all the difference. I produced some 95% glandular head 'bubble' 2 nights ago. It's the highest headie percentage I've yielded from my (admittedly limited) 5 or 6 attempts at bubble. I used fresh 'smalls' (B-buds) and 220/160/45 1 gallon bags. Interestingly, once under a 60X microscope, I could see there were no capitate stalks at all...just glandular heads, a few flecks of green, and the occasional non-glandular cystolithic trichome.

Happy hash-making..!!

Awesome info, thanks for taking the time. Id be curious to hear how that turns out folding the dry ice in after blending? Makes sense...

My bubble doesnt sound quite as tasty as yours :).... maybe next time.

When using buds, do you grind up, break a little, or just leave as is? Also, do you freeze them first?

I usually trim dry, but I just cut one down a cpl days ago and trimmed wet so I can try some fresh frozen.

Thanks again for the info!

My pleasure. Thanks to prohibition, I don't have a lot of experience with hash making (but, I've been around herbal medicine extraction for 20+ years, professionally). So, I was pretty surprised at my recent bubble result. I just hope I can replicate it. For now, I'm just trying out variations on what I've picked up from Bubbleman and Frenchy Cannoli...and the run the other night was me just testing a somewhat rough and tumble idea I thought worth trying.

I used fresh Vanilla Kush b-buds (smalls). Importantly, the buds were not trimmed. I harvested them myself and made sure they were not mishandled. Before freezing them, I only cut away the tips of the longer leaves. I put them under a 60X scope and they looked beautiful. The glandular heads were all still intact. I guess the only advice I'd offer is don't put your fresh or dried material through a mechanical trimmer. For bubble, it seems the extra leaf doesn't really matter...and it protects the trichomes during handling.

I took about 15 ice (h2o) cubes and put them in a blender, adding enough water to make a good slurry. I then added the buds to the blender and pulsed it a few times - just enough to drag the buds down into the mix. I do plan to find a cheap old blender and really dull the blades, to prevent the material being cut up to the extent it did on my test. It wasn't too bad though. Basically, I wanted to give the buds a hard time and drag them thru the ice slurry to break off the trichomes/glandular heads. But, not necessarily cut up the buds up too much.

I then quickly poured the slurry into my bag stack and gave the plant material in my top bag (220) a really good rinse, using my sink sprayer. I then repeated this whole step a second time, creating a new ince slurry and adding the plant material from round one.

FWIW...I only collected the hash from my 160 and 45 bags one time (i.e. after I'd run my buds twice). The 160 wasn't anything to write home about, as you might imagine. But, the 45 was pretty great. A real surprise.

Anyway, I hope this helps in some way. Best of luck. Keep us posted on your progress. I'll let you know how the dry ice 220/160 micron bag combo works.

do like bubbleman and dry sift that dry ice hash. Watch his video(s) in sifting, you can make that dry ice kief into some great hash

looking to try some kief hash wer could i buy the screens say 70 microns or 90 even 120
Do you want screens on aluminum frames for dry sift...or bubble bags for ice/water or dry ice?

Bubbleman has bubble bags and screens...

http://www.freshheadies.com/store/SKM4.html

...you can also save yourself a couple of dollars by buying from a screen printing supplier...

http://www.poconoscreen.com/frames/aluminum

This is the 1 gallon set of bags I have and, fwiw, I like them...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D0Q4MQ8

From my limited experience, I like using 220/160/73/45 screens. But, to some extent, it depends on what your desired end product is (e.g. pressed hash or full melt).

Good luck...

^^ You know where he imports his screens from right?? Look up reinhardt delp vs fresh headies.. he stole from them just like he jacked my sift method to sell himself..

I don't know. Where are they imported from? I would've guessed they're coming in from China, like most everything else today. Is there a supplier of bags and screens that you could recommend? Thx.
