Drying Cannabis

Hey Everyone,
Here is my situation... I'm currently in the process of drying my first batch. Im drying this batch in a 3x3 closet.. The temp inside the closet is 70° with a R.H. of 36%. My question is, are these numbers good? What range should i be in as far as temp and relative humidity go? Thanks in advance.

I bring my humidity down gradually, I don't want to dry them to quickly. Usually starting around 60/70%RH and dropping down to 55%RH. Your temperature seems fine, but you will more than likely dry your buds to quickly if you drop straight to 36%RH.

With a humidity level of over 55% u dramatically increase ur chances of mold I dry mine at a rh of about 45 n she's ready for jarring around 5 days.no need going out n buying a humidifier just keep an eye on em using the branch slightly snapping method n squish em nugs (softly)to be sure then jar em n up n burp daily for about 5-10mins n bam

His RH is 36%.... that is low. 55% or above does not "dramatically" increase your chances.... or else most people wouldn't aim for 55%RH to store their buds. The slower you dry the better, period. Having your humidity at 36% is not ideal and if you could change it I would. I have jumped straight to 50%RH and it took some of the nose away, and I had to wait longer to finish curing.

Also, a fan can be your enemy. To much fan can dry your buds out. It's nice to have airflow, but I prefer to not have direct flow across my buds.

A humidifier? Just restrict airflow and the humidity will take care of itself. You won't use a humidifier when you're drying, that's counter productive. My RH is around 30% where I'm drying and I just keep a very small air current, a computer fan pulling air through a homemade carbon filter, enough airflow to make a lighter flame pull sideways a bit at the passive intake. About 5 to 7 days and they're ready for a jar.

what airflow? Op didn't mention a fan... you're saying to restrict airflow, but add a fan? Chances are that there is a small gap at the base of the door that is already letting air in.(unless OP sealed it) You can have 30%, sure, but that is not by any means "ideal". But screw it, don't take my word. You could have went to the cure section of RIU and had your questions answered.

I agree the rh is very low but a humidifier? Really..that'd do more harm than good imo.with That low of of a room humidity his best bets airflow as already stated.once they're not dried in 2-3 days he's fine. I agree cannabis is best slowly cured but that's the curing process when the moisture is being pulled out of the bud..this sweating process happens in the jar so you've no need to mimic this process when hanging as already it happens in the jar...we burp the jars to release some of this moisture for the first few weeks for 5-10mins when she reaches 55 and lower she's ready to be stored for long term with little to no fear of mold.unless ur checking need burping burping ur buds everyday 65%RH in the jars just moldsville

That's why I told him to point the fan in the crops general direction n not directly on the crop

we never once said it's ideal lol we said it'll be fine n if he didn't have ventilation with the rh u mentioned 65+ he will get mold

I use that method lol the dude says 65%-70% is almost ready for curing n that 70+is 2 humid. And 55 for storage when im storing em long term they've already been curing for ages man so I don't see the point of taking a risk with mold.

I'm not saying go buy a highspeed dehumidifier, but a small one that would have had the environment at a better place initially before the drying process. To be fair, you said have a fan blowing in that general direction. Most people would take that as go get a fan, turn it on and blow it at the plants. When this is not what you want. "Kevin the great" stated that he would use a computer fan, which I agree has limited power and would work well in the situation. It's not about mimicing the curing process while drying, it's about low humidity drying out my bud and taking away nose. I have dried using your techniques and i'm saying that I haven't had the same results as when I have my humidity in my room. I never said you should have 65%RH. I said I like to start there and bring my room down. He CAN get mold, but that doesn't mean he will. You keep mentioning mold, I have been curing this way for a few years now and have never gotten mold once. This is a forum, and if people are going to ask if my temps/RH are good and what should they be, you shouldn't respond with "that's grand go blow a fan in it's direction". You could have cost this guy his crop right then because of a half ass answer.

The OP can also literally type in google "is low humidity bad for cannabis drying" and see that you are absolutely wrong.

Thanks for everyone taking a little time to shed some light. This is my first grow and i have 4 plants. All JackBerry. About an hour and a half maybe 2 hours ago i misted the floor of my closet and some of the surrounding walls the mist didnt come anywhere near the flowers. The rh slooooowwwlyclimbed and its stuck. At 42% and the temp is 71. Im not gonna mess with it anymore and jist let it be an keep an eye on it

It seems like rh should be higher in a 3x3 closet full of drying plants. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I checked my rh when drying, I'd have to assume it's much higher than that though. I dry in a bigger closet with the door closed and with a fan on just outside of the closet.
It shouldn't cause any big problems, they might dry a little quicker than desired.

I think i ahould bre okay for a day. Im cuttin the other 3 in 24 hours and im moving everything back stairs where i can control my enviroment a little better in my upstairs room im at 75° and 53%
