1st time grower and it is nearing time for harvest.
I have a large grow room (mostly empty) and it is already set up with an exhaust fan and carbon filter.
I now need to build an enclosed area within this grow room for drying.
My understanding is that I will need this to be in complete darkness. Correct?
So I will build an enclosure big enough to dry roughly a pound or so at a time.
My main question involves ventilation:
I am supplementing with CO2 in my grow room and therefor do not want to have the exhaust fan running, but would need to have it on in order to move some air through the drying buds.
So I have 2 options I am considering. Cost definitely being a factor.
#1. I could build this enclosure inside the room and just run a fan at the top exhausting 1 end into the grow room and a passive intake on the bottom of the other. This would move air past the buds, but it would just be pulled in from and then pushed back into the grow room.
I have a dehumidifier in the room, btw.
#2. I could build it just the same, but instead of pulling air FROM the grow room, I would pull it from the attic above. Then, I would also exhaust it into the attic as well. Keeping the air in there completely separate from the air in the grow room. However, this would cost me a bit more to do, since I would need an additional filter and some odds and ends.
Which sounds best to you? Or perhaps you have an even better idea? Again, this is my 1st grow and I have no idea what would be best.
Also, whichever option I take, how much air should I be looking to move? What size fan would be sufficient, but not so strong that it would dry them out too fast? I was thinking to use a 6" fan with about a 200cfm rating. Perhaps that would be overkill? Guess I could cycle it on and off OR just get a smaller fan.
