Ok so this is my first harvest in so cal and it's pretty hot were I'm gunna be drying my bud. Were doing it in a tent in the inside of my garage but it's at average
85-90 degrees. What should I do in order to keep my buds from smelling like plant/hay? I know if it dries to fast it won't smell or taste good. What do you guys from Cali do during your drying? Any help much appretiated!! + rep for any help.

Hang to dry (in shade) and check daily. In that heat, wont take long (2 days?). Once they FEEL kinda dry and crispy, put them in jars and close lid. They will be wet as hell within 3hrs! I just open the jars, leave it open for a day, close again. If you're worried theyll dry too quickly, put more in smaller jars, or dont leave open for very long. Anyhow, you probably wont get that awesome skunky smell until they actually cure. Seems like about 3wks is my average when they start to smell great. If it takes longer than 4days to get it to smokable dry(in a bowl/not paper), then youre fine. Just dont leave baggie or jars open after theyre smokable dry, or you end up with dust. Hope I helped. Happy growing to ya.

Proper drying and curing will ensure maximum potency of the marijuana you have grown. Marijuana is not potent just after harvest. Some of the THC is in a non-psychoactive acidic form. Drying marijuana the right way will convert the non-psychoactive acidic compounds into psychoactive THC.

The area where the drying is done should be dark. Light and high temperatures (higher than about 80 degrees) will cause THC to break down into less desirable chemicals, this will lower the potency of the finished product.

You will have to keep the temperature and humidity within a certain range for optimal results. Conditions should remain constantly somewhere within the following ranges, temperature should be between 65-75 degrees F, relative humidity should be between 45%-55%.

At temperatures lower than 65 degrees, drying time will be lengthened. At temperatures higher than 75 degrees, the heat will cause the outer portion of the bud to dry quicker than the inner part, and the taste will suffer.

At humidity levels lower than 45%, the marijuana will dry too fast and the taste will suffer. At humidity levels higher than 55%, the marijuana will take a long time to dry, and it will be prone to mold.

Good luck.

So when your drying the buds won't smell that great and they start to smell good and slinky after curing? So does curing bring out the good smell and flavor?

so you don't want 1/8 of the nation's population to legalize? i think it will be beneficial to most people. yes, growers will suffer, and that sucks. at the same time, supporting prohibition or the flawed medical marijuana system is just ignorant. california was the first state to outlaw it, and it'll be the first to legalize it.

I know and I appretiate you statement and I am going by it but different peoples statements also help in legitimizing what one says.

when people stop going to jail for pot related crimes, then you can say it's legal. when store owners don't have to worry about the DEA raiding their shops, and when you don't have to BUY and annual ticket to purchase pot, then it will be legal. the med-pot system is more of a stop-gap measure. if you still feel justified in the fact that tens of thousands of fellow pot smokers are in jail, then i don't know what to say. when those innocent people are released from prison, and given back their lives, then you can say it's legal. the fact is, pot arrests are still on the rise. in 1998, there were 682,885 pot arrests. in 2008, there were 847,864 pot arrests. ok, so since pot was "legalized" in your world, how come so many more people have been arrested each year? and how come you hear about dispensaries being raided? and how come the US gov't still pressures other nations such as the netherlands to tighten their policies regarding marijuana? why are there still death patrols that march through the Chu Valley destroying pot plants? when the DEA's budget stops being decided by how much weed they can confiscate, then i'll be convinced it's legal.
