What is the best way to dry shrooms? I have heard alot of theories but I think hearing it from experienced growers would be best.

the point is the same, fanatics who claim that mycelium should only be grown in the dark will go nuts with someone saying to chuck those things in a warm oven - perfectionists and anal types. You WILL lose a bit of potency if you heat them but I have held them in a 150 degree oven for hours and hours and never noticed the difference. If you don't dry them, as Darth says, to cracker dryness, you will lose THE ENTIRE MUSHROOM, so.... aren't they better off in the oven?

Well thanks for all the suggestions! I think I will try the fan method for the first flush and the oven method on the second flush to see if there is a difference in potency and see which one i like better!

Use a box fan and try to lower the humidity as much as possible. I use a dehumidifier now with the box fan and thats as easy as it gets. when theyre about 90% dry like not soft starting to harden up get a sealed container with a lot of damprid in it and itl finish the job. i store mine with damprid also because once dry they tend to absorb moisture from the air.

Excessive heat will degrade the active ingredients. How hot do you think the water gets when making tea? I have always read and been told not to go over 220 degrees max, but I never go over 135 on the dehydrator.

Agreed, I think people would be surprised at exactly how much heat these things will take.

A small bit of heat isn't gonna do much harm. I always say that if you don't take enough to think at some point, you did too much, you are wasteing 6 hours of your life, anyway. So marginal potency diffirences is a non-event.
On the drying thing, make absolutely sure it is cracker dry, this prevents bacteria growing on it. Then just as importantly store absolutly airtight, the fungi absorbs moisture out of the air faster than you can blink. Those vacuum freezer bag things works well.
