Most likely it's because the rice is dry and will absorb the moisture from the buds like the old putting a slice of bread in the cookie jar.

Rice will dry weed out up to a point but only if the rice is dryer than the weed is to begin with.

Weed being enclosed in a chamber with rice that's in a dryer state than the weed is will soak up moisture from the weed to the point that the rice and the weed have attained an equilibium in moisture content. Since the chamber is airtight no moisture is released which hastens events that lead up to the state of equilibrium.

This is like those little packets of silica gel you find in new electronic goods packaging. They're used to soak up excess moisture. In quantity they're use to dry flowers and could, with caution, be used to dry weed.

This is often done in reverse also, i.e. where to soften some hard cookies to make them more enjoyable to eat, stick them in a bag with a piece of fresh moist bread. The cookies soak up moisture from the bread while enclosed in the bag helping to make them soft again.

rice has loos starch on it so it would need to be thoroughly cleaned first otherwise your weed will be harsh due to the starch in it. just hang the shit and dont take your chances with this dumb rice method. what is so hard about drying weed in the air?

Looks like it will work just fine. It may even work too good? Check the moisture content. You don't want it dry as a bone. If not dry enough you may want to swap out the rice for a fresh dry batch.

Freakin Classico dude (I like the jar) !!! :weed: :bigjoint:

My buddy did the last bit of drying with rice in the bottom of one of those big bowls with a paper towel on top and it did work. Wasn't harsh at all, some of the buds did get a bit crispy though, not bad.

In my travels I have noticed that in a lot of very humid places, people will put rice in the salt shaker, to keep the salt from clumping up....

The rice absorbs the moisture that would go into the salt, and also adds in breaking up the bits that do solidify...

Someone said something about the starches transferring... is that scientific info or just a guess? :o

i don't see any moisture forming outside the jar been checking hourly i can see the top section of the rice looks darker/ collecting moisture and the bottom half is still dryer looking. tommorow i'll rearrange the buds in there. at first it also smelled a hint of rice now all i smell is the wetbud smell in there. will keep everyone posted. only my cola the rest is still growing... also will i be able to smoke it once dried or will it need to be cured. i realize you gain potency from the cure but is it all that much? will the buds still wack me out just dried in rice. have some killer bagseed to from some really good buds i got, only found like 5 or 6 good seeds tho there wern't that many. for my next try
