Drying with rice

U can smoke it when it's dry, not cured. Curing doesnt do anything for the potency far as i know anyway. What curing does is bring out the flavors and sweetness of the weed, and it's done AFTER THE BUD IS DRY enough that the stem snaps, THEN u go into the jar. If u just want to smoke that cola, I'd just hang it, it'd be dry enough to smoke in a week or so. Once u chop a bud off ur plant, it's not gonna get any more potent than it was.

No, like I said, once u chop that nug off the plant, its as potent as its gonna get. Not gonna get better or worse. If it gets too dry it will just burn up like wildfire, if it's too wet, it almost won't burn at all.

Interesting I hope it works. It looks like there's a lot of leaf left on that cola. I know a lot of people like to leave it on there until after it's dried, but I'd think it would dry faster if you chopped a bit more off.
Good luck!

just so nobody is misinformed, potency does increase with curing...(ripped from greg greens grow book) enzymes continue working after the bud is cut from the plant, as the metabolic processes continue during curing, the conversion of cannabergerol to tetrahydrocannabinol will continue and the potency of the pot will increase. This is because cannabergerol (CBG) is the non-psychoactive precursor for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Of course, the exact change in THC content will necessarily be dependant upon the concentration of CBG in the fresh material at harvest. Of course any remaining precursors necessary to form additional cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids will also be consumed and converted.

Be aware though if curing is excessively prolonged (most connoisseurs would agree after 6 months no more benefit could be had from curing), the conversion of THC to non-psychoactive cannabinol (CBN) will occur. The exact rate of decomposition can vary widely depending on handling and storage conditions, but can be less than 10% to greater than 40% decomposition per year.

enough with the ignorant misinformation, i know many of you have grown for years and are very good at it, but dont spout it out as if it is fact if you do not in fact know the truth.

In my travels I have noticed that in a lot of very humid places, people will put rice in the salt shaker, to keep the salt from clumping up....

The rice absorbs the moisture that would go into the salt, and also adds in breaking up the bits that do solidify...

Someone said something about the starches transferring... is that scientific info or just a guess? :o
this is fact, it is just naturally there due to the farming and transportation process. see, many Asian people wash their rice before cooking to wash off the excess starches, which is what makes the difference between sticky rice and not so sticky rice. when you make rice as directed on the package you will notice that the water turns immediately cloudy. this is the crushed up rice (starch) residue that has been created throughout the process. this will get on the buds almost like rice flour, sticking to the trichs. ah well, it aint my weed. but boy is it easy to hang dry. i would think you would just get wet rice since there is so much moisture in fresh plant matter. but what do i know?

So you are saying there will be a transfer if there is physical contact?

I am trying it out with some very fluffy bottom stuff... but I have th buds in a small jar, inside of a big bowl of rice, with a lid over the whole thing...

No rice touching my buds... :o

I just started yesterday, but I plan on swapping the bowl of rice daily.... I keep an extra one in front of the fire, drying...

i use rice to fix water damaged phones, laptops and other electronics. you basically stick it in a zip lock bag with rice and set it next to the heater. within 24 hours all the moisture from the item is absorbed by the rice. i would say get a container with a rack on the bottom so the weed doesnt actually touch the rice. my 2 cents

everything ooks good i put the stuff in the jar that was hanging up and the dry stuff inside soaking up moisture from them buds i have lid on now and no moisture at all in the jar so i figure i can just leave it close in a dark place for a couple weeks now.

if you have to use rice, then i would say this is the safest method. no contact with the bud should take away most of the risk. late

as far as I know, rice is to be used to keep pollen from drying out during storage. Im not sure if it can be used for buds, but i have a little jar of pollen with dry rice in it. Rice soaks up any moisture in the container, so it might work for buds, but you would need a lot of rice.

nothing beats hanging until dry, sweating, hanging, sweating, hanging, curing, burping.

yeah if i do it again i will make sure toput something between the bud and rice but like i said i put the stuff in that was hanging little moist but not any moisture in ajr open it a few times anyway... the hay smell is there but not as bad. well all that left to do is start a new grow hehe think i will start with 4 hopfully end up with 2 gonna have to top them to keep hieght down and hopfully make full use of my 150 watt hps. i know it's weak but suits me fine gonna make a better enclosement this time tho and get soil with no nutes i got a 3 month feed last time think tha effected taste. even tho i was just giving water.... i'll try to document this grow better my last grow journel got cut short with my accident hehehe. and i've been learning all the stuff i can do on my rollitup page lol i'm slow =P have fun hope this sheed some light on thingsfor some peeps. late

Wait so get me straight here i might use this when i cure my shit ( Hopefully if they are female ). What i do is hang them for 7-8 days or whatever after chop in dark room with air flow. Till stalk is snappy and buds are dry on the outside or whatever. Then put rice at the bottom of a jar. then a layer of paper???? then the buds. and then for the next few weeks keep an eye on them opening them every so often.?

no what i did was cut off my cola and then put it ina jar with rice closed the lid and out it in a dark place for like a week and it was dry. then i took rice out and put the buds in the jar to cure... i'm in the middle of the cure. i hung the other have of my bud to dry and it took 7 days to dry enuff to put in the same jar other buds were in and now they are both curing together. was gonna let them in there for a month. i just tryed the rice as a differnt faster way to dry the budand it did dry a few days before the other bud.
