went to the hydro store and got a fan today. i picked up a 6" duct fan. since it was half the price of others and i have a small tent. the guy said that you cannot put a carbon filter on it. ive seen pictures with carbon filters on duct fans. so which is correct? can i put a carbon filter on a duct fan?

no you cant you need a centrifugal fan to create the pressure to bring the air thru the filter. but dont worry man you may have bought an extra fan but youll need it later. unless you want to try to return it. but you need to get the real deal should cost about 70 online for a 4" fan. your gonna have to put out the dough. and its worth it.

He may have said that for two reasons.
1- duct fan is not strong enough to over come air flow restriction due to filtering.
2-the cfm of duct fan may not be high enough for the filter to be effective

axial fans regardlessof cfm rating DO NOT CREATE ENOUGH PRESSURE to properly utilize a carbon filter. i say this from exp.

i have a 440cfm fan in my 11'x11' room, with a 31 lb can filter (over two years going strong), and i actually had to add a speed controler, to slow it down to 50%. i have two duct fans in my tent, one pulling air in, one pusing it out. they have their uses. i also use the duct on a port i added. it helps for my curing, as this is the room i hang em in. so yes. keep the duct fans. they are so usefull. not to powerfull, but usefull to keep circulation going. bugs , mold, and pm all hate moving air. and plants love it.......

^ yours is a little bigger than mine. I believe I would be good just need a filter that is smaller and needs less CFM
