The small ones like that are of course corona type, but they have very small power supplies which don't generate the seriously high voltages needed to produce enough O3 to do much good. You might be able to smell something ozone-y if you put your nose up to one, but it's not going to be generating many milligrams of ozone per hour.
Competent corona types use a power transformer like you'd find on a neon sign, about 15,000V at a few mA, and usually have a fan to pull air through the unit.
Yep, that's the only way I'd use a corona type- in the exhaust duct, never in room air, triggered only when the exhaust fan is running. Fairly useful in that application.BTW, the dispenser of bad advice had the unit located in his grow cupboard but it was behind the extractor fan, so it couldn't do the buds any damage.
