DWC (actually SWC) - how many airstones

Hi,

Is there some way to calculate my airstone requirements for a SWC tub?

It's a Rubbermaid Roughneck 37.9L (10 gal) tote, and will probably never be more than 2/3 full (25L, 6.5 gal). It will house 12 smallish plants, they will be flowered right from cloning so I don't expect them to get taller than 36", and all lower growth will be trimmed off, it's a main cola grow.

I will be starting with 6 of these, but once I am all scaled in a year's time I expect 24 of them, so I need to plan accordingly and buy some big pumps.

So what airstone and how many?

Thanks!!

Yep thats a great setup.. and if you don't want to get that fancy you can just get a regular 60gal aquarium pump and with its dual outputs attach a simple 1" air stone.. The small round ones in a rectangle shape, not the circle balls, although those would probably do the same thing. You'd be VERY surprised at the kind of bubbling those things can put out with a decent air supply going to them. They're definitely much more efficient than big 12" or longer air stones with the same air pump.

The pumps suggested above are definitely worth their money in every way but if ultra-stealth is key, they're not so regarded. I have 2 of those and while they are quiet for what they are, they're not nearly as silent as I'd like them to be. You can pump all kinds of air through all kinds of air stones with the bigger ones as suggested above and get the frothy water he has. The smaller 1" air stones don't froth the water like that but you can bet it moves a ton of bubbles and makes the water move all over the place from the bubbling topping over itself.

to tell you the truth you only need one of the double XL per 10 gallon if you use that 110 l/min pump
