DWC Brown Algae CURED with EWC Tea!

I posted this success story in the grasscity forums because RIU was down for some time. I was trying to send a thank you to Heisenberg for shedding some light, and was thwarted every attempt to log in!
Here goes!

I ran across the Heisenberg recipe, and altered it a bit.

I did not get the ZHO or Mycoblast powder. I used GH Subculture-m, Aquashield and Big Worm EWC in the dosages that Heisenberg stated. I also had some roots excell and rapid start, and some voodoo juice that was a free 250mL sample from the hydro store. All dosages added were as directed, but for 2 gallons (as the brew was 2 gallons).

BUT, for the molasses, I took one cup of distilled water and put it into a little pot on the stove over medium heat with the 1 tbsp of unsulphured Black Strap Molasses, and stirred until the molasses was completely dissolved.

The reason? Think of all the beneficial microbes fighting for a bite of a glob of sugar! By melting the sugar into a syrup, we are doing what brewers do: spreading out the sugar for the microbes so you have even, rapid growth.

After about 6 hours, I had the desired foam. I only brewed my mix for 36 hours, and VOILA!

I struggled with the whole "sterile" grow, and decided to give it a try. After a month in Veg, I lost my NYC Diesel and my Qrazy Train was lookin good, but no growth. The first picture is of the roots that grew out, and were slimed by the algae. I treated both 20 Gal reservoirs with the EWC, and about 6 hours later I saw new growth out of the ends of my damaged roots and the sides of the net pot. Then about 12 hours later (roughly 8pm the same day) , the next picture shows significant growth (remember, my ladies were STUNTED!). Then, the next morning! Holy moley! Then another 12 hours, and then finally THIS morning! 72 hours after inoculation, this plant did a complete 180! That was 5 days ago.

I'm completely legal in my endeavors, a MM patient just trying to share the knowledge and methods that have been worked on, and then expanded. I wish you all the best, and to those that are hemming and hawing about whether or not to make the switch from sterile to benne..well, I didn't see NEARLY as much growth with the sterile option as I do with the beneficial fungus and bacteria I brewed up!

My next post in this thread are the pictures of the progress of my roots.
I hope you are a believer, because I am!

Happy Growing,

In CHRONological order (from first treatment to the second full strength treatment):

These next few were after I brewed up another 2 gallons of the EWC tea to replace 1 gallon in each reservoir, then lowered the water level to right below the net pots.
Notice that the roots have browned up again (and I KNOW that they will be whiter in the next few days!)
I also made a foliar spray using Humboldt Sticky (surfactant), EWC, Floralicious+, and CALiMAGic.
Man!

I know it looks messy, but it is not a problem! It smells like FRESH mushrooms, which is what we are aiming for!
For the second brew of the EWC tea, I wanted more bacteria in my brew so I used 1tbsp of maple syrup + .5 tbsp of Black Strap Unsulphured Molasses+1 cup distilled water on the stove over medium-low heat, and melted into a syrup (for the bacteria to easily eat). THEN I added 1 tbsp glob of the BSUM for the fungus to latch onto and feast, then brewed for 48 hours in my grow space (@75+ degrees). Foamed in 4 hours! REALLY foaming at 12 :)

I can only thank Heisenberg for shedding light on this method of treatment as I had not seen this information anywhere else.
My ladies are eating and drinking like crazy, and even though it looks dirty as heck, these babies are kicking HARD because of this treatment.

WOW!

If you have any experience with the dreaded slime in DWC (ebb and flow is a whole different story), I highly recommend that you give this a shot. Success is dictated on a) Using sterile equipment, and wash your hands, b)Following the directions of the tea (I suggest you research which foods do what for microbes beFORE you modify the brew), c) Brew it in a warm spot, out of direct light with a cover, and d) make ONLY what you NEED as it is significantly less wasteful, and you won't have to store it for long and risk it going bad.
I had my son brew this last batch and he did exceptionally well. Used as a foliar spray, this EWC tea can keep infestations at a minimum as well as help the plant. Remember that in nature, ALL plants have formed a symbiotic relationship with microbial life. Just note that you do NOT want to spray your flowers with the foliar spray. You don't want to smoke those minerals and salts!

I hope this helps, and I encourage ALL of you that are reading this tread, whether it be a success story or problems you are currently having, to post your results here and share. The only knowledge base we can use is formed through the collective experiences of one another, with a positive attitude and an open mind!

I hope that I helped at least ONE person in this world :)

Happy Growing
