Heyas Stelthy!

I am of course interested in getting a forum for just Small grow areas etc... I think that might be the trouble though...Where do you draw the line on what Qualifies as a" Cabinet Grow" or whatever they call it??
HA LOL!! The CO2 system is just a simple 2L Pop bottle yeast and sugar contraption!! We have very limited $ left to invest so Obviously a real system is not affordable!! We just figured we would try it out...worst case scenario it doesn't do anything, we only invested like 5 bucks!!
I would love to see the system you use, I will have to go back and check your threads for pics...I don't recall you had a system for that....but i'm probably just trippin!!
Your Idea for Co2 use sounds bang on though!!
Wish we had the $$ for that improvement!!! Hopefully on the next set of improvements!

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions!!

P.S. GO BLACK HAWKS!!!!
DOes that 2l work? I tried in once but in veg a while ago..

I like how you lowered the res. That will keep the heat from the ice probe out of the growing area. Maybe you want to get some Styrofoam for the back side of the res and make sure it is vented down there. Something else I thought of you might want to do. I noticed you remove the top to swap out the res. If you installed a drain on it you could drain out the old, mix your new res in a 5 gallon bucket, and siphon it to your res with a hose. Or even a power head pump on the end of a hose. That way your roots are never exposed to the light.

Thanks for the insight Cruzer! Actually the bottom of the cab has a passive vent that is like the cold air return on your furnace (6" by 24") or something like that. Our original Idea was to just have a passive intake but we found we needed the actual fan to help move air around. We are going to add a drain to our res between grows actually and we have a little electric submersible pump we use to drain the res now. eventually we will use the drain we install to drain the res and the pump to fill it back up.

As far as light exposure to roots goes, the room we work in only has green light. So I believe that the roots will be ok because they are never exposed fore more than a few seconds at a time.

So far the set up is working but I am concerned about pests now. Do you think we need to completely seal off the bottom part of the Cabinet around the res? I mean we even have the passive intakes covered in nylons to try and keep all bugs and foreign material out of the Cabinet. Am I being too paranoid? We havent seen any bugs except ants. I only ever found 1 single ant inside so....I don't know if I am going over board or not.

Thanks so much for all your help and suggestions !!

I totally second cruzer's point; I've been doing this for sometime! Just get an aquarium pump, and drop it in your rez, and pump it to a sink if possible. I just pump new water in out of premixed buckets. Cut down my clean/refil time by half!

Even when I do take the plants out (to sterilize the tub and stuff), I just put them in a 5 gallon bucket with a bit of fresh water...you can purchase net pots that are also pre-fitted as lids for 5 gal buckets (they're pretty cheap). This further cuts down on light exposure.

It looks like you're well on your way to smoking some good homegrown!

Ok , so last night we were inspecting the ladies and found 2 undeveloped pollen sacks on the very bottom of Candi.

so we FREAKED OUT!! After coming to our senses, we thoroughly examined every single node of both plants!! What an exhausting event that was!!
Any way we removed the 2 sacks and never found any other on either plant! We will be looking very closely at the plants over the next few days looking for any more!!

So after reading a little bit on Hermies, we found that some plants can produce small sacks late in flower that have no pollen. One theory we have is that because we are time shifting these plants to be on at night instead of day, perhaps the 2 extra hrs of darkness everyday this week somehow stressed her out enough to think it was late in the season.

Any way I have a couple of pics, but did not have my camera on me so they are kinda crap. We realize that we might have to yank her right out and kill her because we don't want any pollen getting anywhere near Crystal! The thought of just killing her now is killing us!! After all this she has just as many flowers as Crystal...Almost!

I would really appreciate any ones opinion on this subject... By Sunday we will have to determine her fate. This also means the mother plant we have of her will also get turfed :((

P.S.

GO BLACK HAWKS!!!

i read this in another post on this site, so not sure if its true or not.

"these bananas when in late bloom arent the signs of hermie they are an emergency reaction from the plant to try to create seeds before its too late. these seeds would be female as the plant is still female. this is how seed banks create all female seeds. there is a few things u can do. if you dont want seeds at all just harvest and pick out the bananas. if you do want seeds but in another harvest , leave it a few days till the pollen is ready then keep in a clean glass jar in the fridge".

Here is a couple more pics... reasons I was having trouble coming to terms with killing her!!

Hey Cab your grow looks outstanding!! I'm so happy to hear you don't have to cut early!

Not sure if you've stopped by my cab build but I built enclosures for my res out of rigid foam insulation and aluminum tape and spray painted the inside black. That should help make your ice probes much more efficient.

I love the color of your ladies...real healthy! I only hope i get as good a result!! :)

peace

Ok so tonight we are going to add some more nutes to the mix and do another thorough check for pollen sacks. So far we only found the 2 on the bottom of Candi. I plan on taking the camera so I can get some better pics up.

When we had them out a few days ago savagely looking for balls, we counted 25 main branches that will all have large buds. 25 colas!! We are starting to try and guess what the yield of this grow will be. Any one else got any guesses?

Our first guess is right around 4 ounces dry.

Later peeps I will have more pics tomorrow!

Hey cab did u triple check for light leaks?
I think you mean in the Cabinet? Well yes and no. Since the darkness is in the daytime now I am assuming? Well the room that this Cabinet is in has Dark shades and a drape over the window that never gets opened. You have to turn on the green light bulb even in the daytime to see anything decent in the room. I know that there isn't enough light in the room to effect the night time schedule.

Have a great day

Actually this has some truth, but is not completely true.
Yes, the bananas in a late state of a female plant is a survival technique but usually only happens when stress has occurred.
If it is a female plant and grows pollen sacks, it IS a hermie. If it pollinates it's own flowers the offspring seeds will carry the hermie trait because it's hermie pollen and hermie flowers.
Although, if you take hermie pollen and pollinate a different full female plant, those seeds will be feminized because both "sex organs" have female genes.
