Hey Flo,
I would have removed all of the flexible stuff and replaced it with semi-rigid if I could.
Unfortunately, I only had a small amount of floor space for my cabinet so the angle is very tight between the cooltube and the exhaust fan and the semi-rigid can't bend enough for the tight space.

If my temps don't stay low enough in the cabinet then I will get rid of the cooltube and just vent out the roof instead.
Trying not to spend any more money on the grow for now. Xmas is an expensive time for everyone.

If I've been good this year maybe Santa will bring me one of these bad boys:

(AvengerDouble Parabolic Reflector)

Peace.

DAY 17 of 12/12

Things are just ticking along:
- Cabinet = 71-91F (22-32C)
- Exhaust = 77-106F (25-41C)
- Humidity = 41-55%
- Res = 66F/19C
- pH = 5.8
- ppm = 990(0.5)/1385(0.7) // excludes tap water ppms

SCREEN COVERAGE:
I stopped trimming undergrowth and training under screen today.
Stretching seems to have almost slowed to nothing, which is great! It was a very different situation to my previous grow, where the planst tripled in size and overgrew the cabinet where plants were burning to a crisp touching the light.

A bit more vegging with this strain next time I grow it should fill in the gaps at the front of the screen.
Still, it seems like a good number of budsites starting to blossom. I'm counting roughly 30 :-)

Contributing factors for reduced stretch:
1. Upgraded from 250w HPS to a 400w HPS with digital ballast so more lumens on the plants, reducing stretch.
2. My screen training has improved. ;-)
3. Better airflow & lower temps in the cabinet, reducing heat stress on plants.

Hey there Ray & Flo,
Thanks for the kinds words my friends!

This 2nd DWC Scrog grow has gone so much better from my first.
All the fart-assing around with removing males from the 1st grow and my mistakes with nuting, pH and lighting heights meant it was a pretty poor harvest.
This in is looking to be much better I hope :)

However, I am away for the next 9 days from tomorrowfor xmas with my extended family and have had to ask my sister-in-law to do one thing (and one thing only sis!) and fill the res with plain water once or twice while I'm away (maybe could get away with one topup on day 5 I'm away?). I will flush and refill the res tonight and so if she can just keep the water topped up in the res for the next 9 days they should be ok hopefully.
I don't want her trying to add frozen bottles to the res or checking pH levels as that might just lead to disaster...

Luckily, pH/ppms are fairly stable and predictable in the res now. I might just set pH a bit lower than my usual 5.8, say at 5.5 tonight as I know it will start to gradually creep up over the next 9 days once you start topping up the res with 7.0pH water.

So I doubt I'll get to post over the next 10 days so wanted to wish everyone an awesome holiday and good growing to you all!
Wish me luck

SHIT-BUGGER-BUM-POOH!

So my second worst fear was realised after returning from 9 days away over xmas holidays :(

Arrived home, eagerly ran to unlock the cabinet, expecting to be greeted by the delightful sight of a groin-tingling amount of bud growth sunning itself underneath 400W of HPS like a family of cheeky meerkats.
Alas, instead I found darkness in the cabinet and a sea of rather anaemic-looking yellow buds that hadn't grown a single bit.

I now realise that in my hurry to leave for holidays I screwed up my settings for the lights on/off timer and so my plants have been bathed in absolute darkness for 9 days straight.

So that's the bad news.
The good news is that cabinet temps have stayed nice and low and haven't gone any higher than 80F/27C :)

Too depressed to post a pic of the aftermath tonight. Will take one for your sadistic viewing pleasure tomorrow.

Hope everyone else's holiday break turned out better than mine.

Sh!t man I'm sorry.. same thing happened to me, as in coming back to dying plants.

Of course mine were so small that the recovery time would be more detrimental then starting over, so you have a harder decision to make.

Thanks for the words of support guys.

Yeah I'm not going to give up on them. I was just bitterly dissapointed at their condition when I got home and threw a bit of a wobbly.

But I've flushed the res and refilled it with fresh nutes, ice bottles, sang them a couple of CO2-filled lullabies and tucked them in under the warm glow of the HPS.

All I can do now is give them some of that unconditional love as you say FG.

Sorry I haven't caught up on everyone's grows yet. Hope everyone has a great NYE and look forward to growing with you all in 2012.

Peace.

DAY 32 of 12/12

So after 9-days of continual darkness (due to a dodgey timer), my plants were looking pretty sickly. It was too depressing to take any pics.

However, after 5 days of TLC they seem to be picking up a bit now but are still looking stunted compared to where they should be.

Some comparison shots:

THEN: IMG_0965.JPG NOW: IMG_1066.JPG

THEN: IMG_0955.JPG NOW: IMG_1064.JPG

THEN: IMG_0946.JPG NOW: IMG_1068.JPG

So while I'm not giving up on these babies, I suspect the final harvest weight will be negatively affected by a good chunk.

Dude they look good. May just need some more time to finish. Instead of say 8 weeks, maybe 10 weeks to make up for it. Who knows, but I like what I see from them.

Cheers Ray!
Time will tell bro.

It's also so bloody hot here at the moment which is not helping matters much.

Sticking by them in their hour of need. Never leave a flowering female behind! Hooah!
