DWC First Grow - MK Ultra SCRoG

Hey everyone :)
New to the site and new to hydroponics.
Starting this journal in attempt to keep track of progress as well as connect with others who can help along the way in my journey to grow my own medication.

I've never done Hydroponics before and have only grown a couple times in soil so I'm diving in headfirst! As the journal title States I will be doing a dwc with the strain MK Ultra in 2x2' SCRoG.

I have two indentical grow tents.
3x3x6.
One 5gal bucket per tent.
6" vortex sline exhausting a 25' run
Mars hydro II 900 LED light
2x 6" secret jardin tent clip on
oscillating fans
2x2' PVC SCRoG screen

I know some of you are probably wondering why I have a 2x2' screen in a 3x3 space. Well, the fun part. Where my tents are placed I don't have access to all sides, making proper care of a SCRoG bit difficult. So what I am attempting to do is create a rotating SCRoG. I have build a lazy Susan (rotating platform) for my girls to sit on. Both of us are happy. :)

More to come later with pics.

It should be fun. I have been interested in MK Ultra so I hope they kick ass. I don't have much faith in LED's though so I'll wait and see how they do. Are you going to experiment with some off brand nutes or just use boring proven nutes? Welcome to RIU!

I've heard good and bad things about LED. We will see how it goes. If I don't like it I can always go hps/mh

I'm going to be using GH nutes for this.
Thanks for the welcome

The day has finally come! My girls have arrived! My grow is a legal medical grow and as such the way we purchase clones is through the mail. My clones we're sent out on Tuesday and I just received them Thursday afternoon.
I have planted them into their pots and have a humidity dome over top until the roots set in a bit. I chose this route as space (and time) was limited and I didn't want to purchase and setup two humidifiers.
Seems I have it dialed in at about 70% humidity. I think I'm going in the right direction.... :-/

I did notice on one if the clones that one of the leaves the edges are a bit brown. Hoping this is just some stress and a bit of defficiency from sitting in the mail.

Figured I would give a little update as I have some time.
2 more days and my girls will be 4 weeks old!!
This defiantly has not been without its problems. At first I was battling issues with droopy leaves. Attributed it to humidity as it was sitting in the 30% range but it seems I was over watering. Apparently rockwool holds water MUCH longer than I thought. Opps. Stopped top feeding all together and that seems to have cleared up.

After a bit I noticed some...best way i can describe it... glazing??... on the leaves. Again, I atributed this to low humidity as some times it was dipping as low as 20%. Now runnig two humidifiers and humidity is up to the 35-40% range and seeming to have made the difference.

I sourced some hydroguard (not sold here im told) that was a bit of a chore but WELL worth the effort. I think I bought too much though. Didn't realize its only good for 6 months after opening. Guess I'll have to start another grow... more on that later ;)

Saw a gnat flying around, killed it good!:fire: Picked up some sticky strips and have caught three more on it. Ran 1/4 chunk of mosquito dunk in each rez for 48 hours and did a water change. (read mixed advice, leave it in all the time, make a tea, 24s, 48hrs?)
Will follow up with consecutive treatments for the next bit.

As of Friday I noticed a lot of the leaves started to go a really dark green and after their most recent weekly water change their leaves almost instantly started to claw and continued to get worse. I took that as a major sign and I believe it to be a bit of nitrogen toxicity. fancy that huh? too much love.Real armature mistake. I was giving them fresh water AND feed nutes weekly. Flushed with clean ph water (and mosquito dunk) for 48 hours and then switched up to a mild feed of botanicare calmag 4ml/g, super thrive 1 drop/g, hydroguard 2ml/g, florablend vegan plant booster 5ml/g, and trying out some remo kelp 5ml/g. All of this and they seem to have exploded since. :)

Today I replaced the tie wraps i was using to LST that i noticed were starting to cut into the plants with some 12 gauge wire. Topped and trimmed here and there (still unsure of this skill, im sure it will come with time) and continued to spread the plant out with some LST. Now I'm going to let them sit for a few days before I play with them again. Looking to start attaching it to a screen soon. Hooray for new challenges!

Just dropping in a little photo update.
5 weeks old! :)
Just did a flush with clearex as I have been experiencing some lockout and just plain tap water wasn't quite doing the job. I suppose we will see if these flush products are a gimmick or not soon enough.

I believe with a second round of mosquito dunk treatment that has taken care of the fungus gnats. (No that's not the normal place for my trap and hygrometer)

A little bit of pruning needs to be done but with all the stress of the plain water changes and now the flush and soon on to a low nutrient support solution I think I will leave them for the weekend.20190111_052406.jpg

20190117_033629.jpg 6 weeks old today! :)
And I gotta say they are looking pretty yummy already.
In the process of switching from City to RO water. My city water is only 170-180 ppm but I feel as though something in it is not playing well with my nutrient (they sometimes ball up into a snot like substance in the water) have been using the RO water with some calmag/kelp/hydroguard to top up with. About 1 gallon left to go. Will switch over to adding more nutrients again as they look like they have recovered pretty well sofar.
Also raised the lights a couple inches. 18" seemed too close. Had a couple leaves tips curling up. Moved the light to 20" and fan position and they seemed to have straightened out.

Starting up a Lemon Kush SoG grow soon. Ordered some more clones that should have been here by now. They will be here by Wednesday so it looks like the MK girls are staying in veg for another two weeks as i don't want two tents with different light cycles. I suppose it gives me time to add the net and start weaving the MK.

All for now

Your scrog setup looks excellent.. :)
I have yet to update, will soon when I have time. As of yesterday I have made the executive decision to flower just as LST the way it is. It seems I have been having a small outbreak of powdery mildew. *Sigh*
I have been spraying daily with protekt leaving it at a pH of 9.9 and it seems to be helping tremendously. I have some serenade and green cure on the way that I plan to do weekly alternating treatments.
I tjith it was partially my fault. I didn't prune when I should have as I was sick and then noticed the PM after I got better. Oh well. Is what it is

Alllllright. So. It's been a bit of an up and down. The plans for this round of grow was to have two more ultra plants in a scrog and doing another 6 Lemon Kush in another tent. Plans looked good on paper... It ended up taking my LP (weedmd) nearly 3 weeks longer than it took to get me my last clones. When I did receive them they looked horrible. I felt skeptical planting them and I should have listen to my gut. Shortly after introducing them to my environment my mk girls started to show signs of powder mildew. All the clones ended up with mildew. So due to the delay both the mk have gotten to big for one tent. All the lemon kush have been removed and the two mk have been separated and put in separate tents. I have chosen to grow them out and flip to flower tomorrow. I have been feeding silica (water and foliar) with great results and have now just added green cure also have some serenade as backup. Hoping for a stroke of luck here during harvest.20190204_145951.jpg 20190204_145958.jpg 20190204_150054.jpg 20190204_150100.jpg

I had to toss all mine. So pissed.
I ended up seperating both my mk ultra into separate rooms and ended up attaching them to the SCRoG net. Been spraying with protekt and greencure weekly.
1 week of flowering done. Sofar so good. :)

What kind of potency does that MK have? I've always been interested?
When I was buying it from the LP it was coming in at 17-19% so I imagine around the same. I know the strain can go higher but I'll be happy if I get 15% as a first grow
Thinking of bucking up and paying to get it tested.

A few update photos of each of the girls.

F28

Defoliated again on Sunday. Keeping a nice air flow. Have had no signs of PM outbreaks again so I'm feeling confident the changes made are helping.

Also foliar sprayed again. One plant I did 3/4 teaspoon/gal of greencure with 1/2tsp/gal protekt and noticed almost instantly some pistiles started to brown. Reduced the dose to 1/2tsp/gal of GC for the 2nd plant and still the same result. They don't seem to mind. Infact new pistles are appearing nice and white and plants are frosting up. No concerns here, just a side note.

The LP I got my clones from claims this is a 10 week strain. Yet anywhere I look online says 8-9 weeks. Thinking of pushing to 9weeks regardless. Will have to wait and see.20190305_135717.jpg 20190305_135723.jpg 20190305_135732.jpg 20190305_140726.jpg 20190305_140732.jpg 20190305_140745.jpg

well it looks like i dropped the ball on updating this. seems i cant learn hydroponics from scratch AND keep a thread updated. well it turns out my yield was 242g from two plants, each plant in a 2x2 trellis. not bad. not great.

i just finished my 2nd grow, Pink Kush. I upgraded my lights this time around to crecer quantumX 200 (200 watt draw). Two plants (2x2 net each) gave me a yield of 336g, while using nearly 50% less hydro. much better, but i can still do better im sure!

enter the upgrade! my space has now been tore down and my stash is being smoked while contemplating a new layout. ill make a new thread for this one, hopefully i can keep you all updated along the way as im sure ill need some help here and there.
