I don't think it's possible to get any easier or any more economical that that. it should become a sticky.

LOL and thanks. Im sure the Thread is going to become sticky sooner or later. Hopefully its so sticky it drips haha..Wait im talking about the future stash haha..
But thanks. Yea and to steal a quote i heard.
DWC growing is so easy a caveman could do it. And yup i do get jazzy when i hear that said bwahahaha. But seriously if i can do it anyone can.
Its actually easier than soil. And the rewards are crazy.
Hopefully i can make it as simple as possible without getting retarded.
Peace.

Maybe someone who knows a mod could suggest that the growtorial be made a sticky?

Thx bro...I'm quite proud of what I put together here. These are the beans I germed using the technique you told me..

 Very nice man!Its very smooth and clean looking! Kinda makes me all tingly haha yea good stuff!
Start a journal bro. Not sure if u already have.U starting with bagseed?

I haven't started a journal yet, but I think I will. The seeds are white widow, I'm not sure what you mean by bagseed? assuming it means a bunch of random, unknown strains tossed into a bag? I started 4 seeds on the 22nd of this month and transplanted to the buckets on the 24th. I had two clones going my buddy gave me but they didn't want to root (they were in the buckets for two weeks?) so I yanked them out and germed two more seeds on the 24th, they got transplanted on the 26th. The two in the center, if you look at my precious post, are the youngest. The older ones are just starting to sprout the second set of jagged leaves, I'm thinking I shoud lower my light? right now it's 29" above the tops of the buckets. I'm usin a 1000w MH

One more question for you...where should you measure temps? I have my thermometer mounted on my carbon filter. Up there the temp is 74f but if I put the thermometer down on the buckets it reads 86f...quite a difference

Yea bagseed is a term used for seeds u pick up in a good random bag of weed thats all. White widow sounds good..
Sorry i cant answer the question on the 1K. Thats alot of lamp for a little beanling.
How i jugde mine is hold my hand above the tops of the plants them selves i stop when it gets warm..
With a 400 watt hid i start mine around a foot if that helps.
Right now in flower its about 6 inches from the top's. Glass is cool to touch.

If the beans start stretching start getting it closer man.. Ur looking for the leaves to start standing up comfortably towards the light.
I can also tell u that if ur lamp is too close then ur little plants will actually start leaning and the leaves will SAG.
With a cooled lamp tho u should be able to get alot closer than most would suggest.
Play with it.

On another note. That 1K is going to be wickid man.BEASTS if done properly. Start that J im looking forward to it.

Also... Far as temps.. Ur looking for Ambient room temps. Meaning the overall temperature of the flower room itself.
Alot of people will tell u different things on that and to each his own i guess.
My ambient room temp is controlled at 84 degrees via a portable A/C.
My plants leaves tend to sag when it too cold then again im one of those people that obsesses about my plants constantly and notice things like that..
Besides think about some of the conditions these weeds grow in naturally.
Also my res temps are a little unorthodox as well.. Ive chilled my res with bottles and such but have found that 72-78 degrees is also quite fine.
At least good enuff to get a Gram/Watt.

What ur going to need to watch and monitor closely is ur PH.
The pro's say ur plants are more readily able to use the nutrients ur feeding ur plants with a PH of 5.8. It will fluctuate and anything between 5.6-6.2 is acceptable but ive found 5.8 to be the sweet spot to shoot for.
With a 1K lamp u will be able to test ur PPM levels..

Just remember this.
PH will drop if ur feeding to much.
PH will rise if u dont feed enuff.

Hope all this helps.

Thats some great info, thank you, truly appreciated....If I can get a gram/watt I'll be happy as a pig in shit!!! got a busy next few weeks but I'll start on my journal soon

hi there, first grower here. i currently have a mini fridge to work from.

this will be my first grow, and i am planning to use CFL until i can put together a cool tube for a HPS. is DWC a good idea for a mini fridge, and is DWC a good idea for a first time grower?

That fridge is pretty small, which means your gonna have to use a small res/container if you wanted to grow DWC. No way you could get a 5gal bucket in there(and still have room for the plant to grow) I guess you could use a recirculating DWC setup in there but that may be more trouble than its worth. Small containers mean less solution for the plant and then more quickly things like PH and PPM will fluctuate. I'm not saying it can't be done but you would really have to stay on top of things.

Myself, if I had to use that mini fridge, I would use soil. Wouldn't need the constant attention a DWC setup would

Yea the only thing i could suggest is having a fine tuned DWC grow in place before trying anything like that.
And even then u are probably going to have to be growing a solid indica strain and grow str8 12/12 from seed to be able to manage that cab.

Look into LST.

Im not saying its not possible its just going to be alot of work. But well worth the rewards. If u have patience and a little time.

Peace

good point. i'll start lurking in the soil threads and start reading up. i can store the reservoirs and the filtration outside the mini fridge, and noise is not a concern; it's mainly plant i'd like to keep sequestered.

Ideally, i'd like to get this fridge working eventually as a vegetative chamber and have a bigger flowering container, but for now i'll settle for crawling before running. (hence my noob eagerness to jump into dwc)

both good ideas, and it was reading about LST that got me interested in small cabinet action. the indica would be bushier rather than taller too, right? Do you think i'd be too greedy fitting 2 plants in there with some light bondage? I have about 58cm (23") of total height and a 900cm^2 of floor space.

i think you may be ultimately right; I should get a DWC system off the ground before i start miniaturising it.

Jeanna, you could remove the compressor and all the mechanicals outta your fridge and cut that step out for a bit more room? Just do it outside so you dont gas yourself with the refridgerant, ya not the most environmentally friendly thing to do but.....actually for the amount of work and what you would gain from it...forget it, I'm blitzed so I'll just shut up now....

i already did, so blitzed minds must think alike. i was going to flip the fridge over to get max floor space (the 'ceiling' is flat). i could put a substantial amount of hardware where the compressor used to be; i was thinking either a charcoal filter could go in there, but i also have lots of surface mount space on the inside of the door. if i could get a cool tube in there, i'd put the squirrel cage fan right there, as well as the HPS ballast.

i have a lot of 5 gallon buckets and i can make a large enough reservoir to buffer nutrient concentrations and pH, basically i'm hoping the fridge walls and magnetic seal will keep the odour in.

The current pollitically correct refrigerant is r-134a, which isn't ozone depleting. it makes the garage smell like old fridge, but it evaporates really quickly. i just folded the copper pipes down and hammered them shut to stop the refrigerant from escaping. The compressor contains a really nice, permanently oiled vacuum pump in there for some other project i the future, but i tossed it in the skip. there's lots of fridges to choose from where i'm at, and hardly any of them have dead bodies in them.
