I too had problems with my tap water which isn't bad at all. Switched to ro and no more swings

very true- i've gotten my solution milky white a few times before i figured that one out

Also, good to vary your acids- sulfuric and nitric are the most caustic, but they're really good strong acids. Phosphoric acid is mostly a 'weak' acid whos effectiveness can be easily disrupted.
