you should really try germing them with a wetpaper towel first. Once you see a taproot then you can put it in your non saturated with water rockwool.

Hmm I have the exact same problem with my seeds. I've germed and they showed a tap root, i put them in the rockwool which i simply sprinkled with water. It's been 5 days and yesterday when I came home and checked them, some of the had white stuff coming out which looked like mush and none have sprouted. This is being done in a hydroponics system from stealth hydro. I'm thinking it's because the temperatures in my room had been a little cold 1 or 2 days (68F) but during day time it's been consistently at 72F and 50-55 humidity. The water I'm using is filtered tap (may this is the problem?) and i've added a bit of grow nutrient with which i sprayed the rockwool as Roseman advised and he has the same system. Maybe it's the seeds, the ones that gave a tap root were freebies from nirvana and 2 were Shiva seeds which looked greenish to me (immature). I got some fresh Afgaani seeds which look great and am germing 2 right now in case my suspicions are correct and the others won't germ, might even try putting them in soil to sprout and then tranfer them to hydro. Any ideas anyone? Thanks This definitely put me in a bad mood last night.

sounds to me like your rockwool is 2 wet. i use a damp paper towel to germ mine. once the tap root is about 1/4" long i put them in the presoaked rockwool. i put the rockwool in a plate of 1/4" ph'ed water until i can see a few roots popping out the bottom of the rockwool. i dont put them in the bubbler until the plant is about 1.5" tall, and has some decent roots coming out of the rockwool.

That's an excellent tip th3bigbad, thanks! I had those suspicions b/c i germed cilantro and basil as a test grow before this, and they sprouted fine in the stove (using soil). So i'll try germing, i'll transfer to the rockwool. I'll post an update.

Well i solved the problem. Do not oversoak the rockwool! It should not be dripping after you water it. Shake off all excess moisture and it should be good. I put mine under a plastic lid (now i bought a heated propagator for this) and the sprouts came up like in a day.

Also the ones that germed and sprouted are the Nirvana Afgaani seeds. I had a bad batch of Shiva from gypsy, they were immature and greenish, the freebies they sent germed better than the ones I paid for. Check out my journal for pictures and details of what I did. :weed:

I normally germinate my seeds by using 2 plants and 4 pieces of paper towel.

I get the first plate and cover it with 2 pieces of towel. I then wet it real nice. I put my seed on top, then i cover it over with 2 dry pieces. I do this so that the dry towels soak up the excess from the bottom pieces and you don't get whats called damping off which kills your seeds from overwatering. Then I cover with the other plate and put away in a dark drawer at room temp.

Once they have taproots showing, i'll prepare the rockwool. I'll put it into a bucket of water with a ph of 6. I'll leave it to soak for approx 30 mins at which point i take it out and give it 3 good squeezes turning it round after each squeeze so I have done it from every angle.

The cubes should be nearly dry but still nicely moist.

I never have any problems with this method.
