DWC Seedling damping off

Just built a DWC bucket system, sadly one of my seedling wilted to the side, after doing some research seems it died of damping off, quickly removed the seedling in question, but since they are all using the same circulating water I wonder if my other 3 seedlings will die off as well?

any tips advice would be highly appreciated thanks :D

One tip is starting them outside of the system with regular Drain to waste. Smaller plants need less moisture and nutrients to develop roots and seek out water. You will start out with underdeveloped roots before they grow into it if you plant them straight in the system IMO.

When they all have a lot of established roots poking out of the net pot you introduce more water, aeration and nutrients. You feed and water according to plant size, growing style and method doesn't change this.

So the flaw was planting the seed directly in hydroton because there is too much water? Was thinking of using clones from the seedlings before putting into flower and building another system for veg but only using clones , would this be better or i shouldn't plant the clones directly in hydroton nether?

You didn't use jiffy/peat puck or some medium in the middle of the net pot? While it's possible to plant seeds straight in hydroton it's hard to anker it in position to not disturb roots when you water through the net pot.

They need to be fixed somehow in the netpot, clones is better to plant straight in hydroton.

Damping off tends to only attack seedling stems above the surface and in high humidity like under a dome. I’ve never seen it it spread through the solution in a res, but I also never started seeds in hydroton like that. To be safe you might want to change solution and add some H2O2, but I’d definitely rethink the starting seeds in straight hydroton.

With DWC root growth of both seedlings and clones really explodes once roots are below the net pot.

I liked using an aero cloner because it was easy to leave clones in the cloner until they had nice roots going then put them into the net pots with some of the roots hanging down below the net into the bucket and filling around the roots with hydroton.

Put seed for 24hours in glass water then planted directly in hydroton, they seemed to have trouble popping out though, I can see the stem kind of getting around to bypass the hydrotons insted of growing up straight. The water level is about the same as the net pot, but the bubbling makes half of the hydroton wet and the other top half seems to stay dry. I have not watered the top of the hydroton ever so the top half is always dry.

I want to make a another dwc system and always reclone before sending into flower, so my hopes was to only plant clones directly in hydroton after. But will definitely use some kind of medium next time im dealing with seeds.

No bubbleponics and it is not in any rock wool? No wonder the root is drying out, this is a seedling.. But I warn you, seedling are VERY easy to overwater too when they are in small rock wool cube so never saturate them(not more than 50% weight) and let them dry out

And start and water your seeds with a low ppm solution like 250 in the first week then 400 the second week then 500..

i put it in rockwool and the bottom of the rockwool is barely touching the surface of the water.the air pump will trow bubles at it and it will hydrate.

allsoo i go for 500 ppm or since your not using same nutes as me less than recomended dose for the first few weeks

why are your clay balls wet?
