It's a deal. I got two limo companies on speed dial, we can party like the Rasta stars we are!

Just got a quote on a house wide heat pump system.

$6200

4 ton outdoor unit
(2) 6kbtu/h for offices
(1) 9kbtu/h for master bedroom
(2) 9kbtu/h for living and dining room
(1) 12kbtu/h for my room

Not bad. The outdoor 4 ton goes for 5k online.

its a mitsubishi hyper heat wall mounted heat pump. variable speed condenser to 10%. wall units are 21 SEER. Condenser is 18.5 SEER

ill have to run some geographical #s but im sure ill save a ton on my heat. My boiler is only 80% on a good day. Oil prices fluctuate a lot but ive been recording prices and amounts used in the past year to come up with a cost per year.

ill figure out how many btus i used this past year to get a btu/$ price.

Then use a 250% efficiency for the heat pump at whatever amount of btus i used last year.

Figure out a ROI

im sure my electric utility has some rebates for heat pumps.

very efficient system. itll use the heat my room generates to heat up the rest of my house.

thermodynamics...fuck ya!

Your ROI will be easy to calculate; just add up all your fuel oil bills.

I'm excited for you! I think it's going to be a great move!

Not quite a slam dunk.

This is the math I came up with.

138,500 btu per gallon of heating oil

570 gal used a year avg price of 2.59/gal = $1,473 per year

$1.87/100,000 BTU

78,945,000 BTU of oil to get 63,156,000 BTU of heat

__________________________________________________________
29.3kwh/100,000btu = 1kwh = .144 $/kwh x 29.3kwh = $4.22/100,000 BTU

ductless heat pump = 63,156,000BTU / 2.5(eff.) = 25,262,400
25,262,400 * $4.22/100,000BTU = $1,066 per year

At $407 per year savings thats an ROI of 15 years roughly.

Right, assuming fuel oil doesn't budge a penny that whole time.

True, oil was cheap last year. I do get air conditioning and precise control over every room.

I get to avoid the inevitable boiler repairs as this thing is from the 80s and in need of repair. I can get rid of the ugly baseboard as well.

And I can have a truly sealed grow.

Get a propane tank for a hw heater and I can get a gas grill for outside and a range for indoors.

Electric ranges look bitchly.

And the sq. footage that will free up downstairs I can add another bathroom/laundry room. Bam. Now my house value went up.

Your home's value will have already increased because the savings on the utility bills can be baked into the selling price. Definitely a great excuse to pad the offer a few grand!

A nice gas range is a stylish addition to any kitchen. Here's mine;

I have a gas dryer, too. It's not as sexy, though it does save a fortune.

In Colorado we're swimming in cheap locally fracked natural gas, piped into most homes and commercial spaces via public utility.

This is why I really want to do some fuel cell research and install one in my house. That plus a heat pump and I'd be getting a check from the power company, rather than cutting one!

Gas ranges...so sexy.

I wish I had nat. gas TBH.

Heat pumps are only a marginal savings compared to it.

They do 500 rebate at my utility for heat pumps and 0 percent financing up ro 25k for energy upgrades. They gotta do an energy analysis on your house tho. which means they gotta go inside my home. No thanks.

750 rebate heat pump water heaters

C.A.P. is now thankfully out of business, but they used to sell cheap- garbage- components of all sorts. Their bulkheads leaked because the moulds were over used and the edges were all rounded off, plus fewer barbs to begin with. I found a good brand and stuck with them. I suspect Botanicare wouldn't put their name on them if they weren't up to snuff. Guess we're about to find out!

CAP wouldnt be making all those cool products anymore? They may have had shitty bulkheads but the rest of their stuff atleast had variety.... I cant say I tested it all.
