DWC vs Coco

A complete food, Silicate and a sterilizing agent is everything needed in DWC. I've used this formula since 2010. When you can grow top shelf with cheap and easy measures why not do it? I only use foliar as additives, way more cleaner and effective that way.

That being said every grower has their preferences. Like @rkymtnman is away from the grow 2 weeks at a time and then you need automatization/dosier for a chlorine treatment to work for that time period.

If you live in the US and run a chiller SouthernAG is a good alternative to running sterile. But both method produces top shelf if operated properly. Cheers!

I've been growing for a grand total of 8 months. Maybe I'm just trying to run before I can walk!?

Basically, I can only grow one plant at a time given the local laws... otherwise, it's 'intent to supply'. If I mess up an experiment I therefore have nothing to fall back on. Given that all of my attempts so far have failed, I've resolved to keep it super simple this time. Maybe I can have fun experimenting once I've got a stash I can fall back on!

@Rurumo I really appreciate your insight. Quality is what I'm after... as an insomniac, I'm growing legendary OG punch (RQS). If terpene quality is much improved through mycorrhizal excellence, then medicinal properties will undoubtedly improve too. Think I'll try Coco for my next grow - and do so taking all comments on board about it probably being a bigger PITA than DWC to do properly!

Can't keep up with all the amazing advice - thank you all very much... really appreciated.

Just got myself a zero water filter system to eliminate source-water contamination as a potential issue, but hadn't considered bacteria. A UV filter isn't too expensive - I might treat the zero water with UV before adding anything to it.

If Kelp is fine in DWC and that feeds bennies, then I might incorporate quite a few of these ideas in the next week. I'm only 3 weeks in on this current attempt - if it fails, it's not cost me a lot of time.

if i could only grow 1 at a time, a 5 gallon hempy bucket would be my choice. hard to f' them up. can't overwater. feed once a day and you won't have pH issues. hard to get root rot in. can grow a tree.
