Dying leaves - part 4 (the final insult)

Hi all,

I've posted a few threads about this problem. Basically the issue is I have a plant which (since the second week of development) has had dying browning leaves. The saga was in these threads:
I (gratefully) received suggestion of these various possible issues:
  • Underwatering
  • PH imbalance
  • Nutrient deficiency
Sadly, despite trying to adjust the amount of feed / maintaining PH balance at around 6 and making sure i'm giving the correct nutrients - the problem still exists. Here's what she's looking like today (ie... NOT healthy):

Can anyone offer anything else which may be causing this? I've tried adjusting light / nutes / humidity / feed amount and frequency - nothing seems to be working. There was a period after my second post where it looked like things were getting better but now back to lots of dying leaves again. Dry, brown, crispy leaves I should say.

I did try upping feed to twice a day but she was fairly unhappy with that too, and got major droopy leaves so I switched back to once a day.

Ugh - the White Widow Auto wasn't this much hassle. Maybe I'm just destined to switch back to soil. Just once more for those who didn't read any of the other posts, here's the basics:
  • Auto Kryptonite (dwarf) strain
  • 1000 Spiderfarm LED (currently on around 80% - she doesn't like at 100!)
  • 70% coco / 30% perlite
  • 15ml Bio Grow / 10ml bio bloom / 5ml calmag per 5ltr room temperature water.
  • Growing in airpot.
  • Temps between 22 and 26 deg.
  • Constant airflow through the tent.
  • Currently on day 42 (around 12 days since first pistils appeared)
Anyone got any other ideas?

rusting leaves are actually caused by a fungus so get a good pesticide and hope for the best

How are you checking PH?
It seems like the damage is mostly on the old large fan leaves which you can just go ahead and remove.

well rusting leaves in just a fungus that needs a living plant to survive so rusting leaves isnt over or under deficient its fungus eating your leaves away

I'm using a calibrated pen to test PH.

I dont understand how it would be possible. This is an indoor tent grow. None of the material has been exposed to outside. That being said, I'm running out of ideas!

ok well im just letting you know what rusting on leaves are. theyre are microscopic bugs you cant see they are taking tiny bites of your plant making it look like rust. if u dont believe be google it

No, I absolutely believe you but not keen on using pesticides and in honesty, was hoping it would be something else that's to blame. Never had these issues in soil!

I do have a high power microscope so I may take a look and see if I can spot anything.

well they have sprays that are safe for direct contact and ik you dont want to believe it i do it with mine all the time but its best you spray it after pulling leaves cuz youd rather be safe then sorry ypur plant will be fine if you spray it but if u dont it could die

Has anyone suggested to check your roots?

No, not so far. I was thinking about trying to transplant to a bigger pot so could check then roots when I do that, though it's in an airpot and I've not seen any roots reach the edges of the pot yet so wasn't sure if it was time. She's in a 5 L pot just now but it's not a huge plant. Only about 47cm tall and around 50cm at the widest point.

The damaged leaves just looks like its just residual damage from prior grower error. The leaves will not repair themselves so there is no sense in keeping them on the plant. Are you finding that the damage is spreading or is it pretty much staying the same?
It also looks like now you have nitrogen clawing from overfeeding.

Usually go by age of the plant for pot size. I'd see if you can gently pull it out and look if you've checked everything else. And yes

Okay, so since my last post I've actually repotted into a 20L pot (from a 5L). Checked the roots while I was at it - they all look pretty healthy to me. Nice and white - no sludgy bits as far as I could see. Did look a little root-bound at the bottom of the pot though.

I think you're right - a lot probably was from my earlier PH issues. However, there are new leaves two weeks later with the same issue. I'm new to coco growing so still not on the pulse of how much is too much, but several people on here told me you can't over-feed in coco (nutrients were as per Bio-bizz recommendations).

Deffo NO fungus gnats. I've got experience with those little bastards and this time I'm ready for them (if they appear) but no, certainly no insects of any sort. Ugh... those things make my skin crawl.

All in all, I reckon this will be my first and last coco grow. Nothing but issues from the day 6 onwards! I'll try soil next time, but using airpots. One day I'll get it right. My first grow in soil yielded some nice weed despite the struggles. This one... I'll be surprised if it gets to the end.
