“Also LED lights offer a smaller spectrum of light. Certain wavelengths the plant requires to generate calcium are absent. So keep an eye on calcium deficiency when growing with LED.”

Well, the biggest argument I've seen for it is LED light is more spread where bulbs have focal points. So more spread means more calcium used up. Then I think about the sun lol.

I'll check this article out.

“We must mention that although LEDs are perfectly safe and developed in a way that makes harming plants very difficult, it is not impossible. Many think that due to the low heat output of LED lights, their exact placement near to plants is not important, but that is wrong. If the light is too close it can prove to be too much for the plant to process, triggering a defense mechanism and leading to what`s called photoinhibition. This might cause photo-bleaching and turn the plant's leafs white.”

That I agree with. I just did it lol.

The previous article had that small tidbit, but I still call BS. Not in you, just the science of it.

I think the reason that LEDs are messing so much shit up is exactly what you just posted and the environment. Example, if it's warm, it speeds up photosynthesis. Now compound that with excessive light and you get excess transpiration which moves calcium quicker but also stresses the plant through too much turgidity, weakening cell walls and creating calcium def.

Just my opinion based on observation and a tidbit of scientific research.

Educated guess? That is what us old folks call it LOL

I’ve grown longer and been on here longer. I have watched this develop as LED started becoming popular. Read the articles.

Anytime I mention it it’s with reason. You think it’s the water?

By the way I do provide evidence from actual experts and experience. Or haven’t you noticed?
Every single time, huh? Lol. The one trick pony has the cure-all for everyone. No need to post a pic. Got spotting, curling, drooping, purpling..etc..it can all be gone like a bad dream as soon as you raise the light to 22”. I’ve heard your pitch.

Where’s your advice? Ever?

For the record, I trust you more than the articles.
It’s not the universal answer but after reading and responding to hundreds of threads you figure some common problems out. LED is the future. I know that. The high end lights really perform well. But just because the cheap LED on Amazon claims to be “full spectrum” is no guarantee it is. The higher wattage Viparspectras seem to perform well but I’m not an expert. Just experienced somewhat.

Your experience outweighs every article you've posted so far in my opinion. Those articles are all trying to sell you you shit.

I've been doing my own LED experiments due to your shared knowledge on lighting and I just don't see a correlation between the calcium and the LEDs. Other issues, absolutely.

Like when somebody's leaves are fried to a crisp or tacoing or bleaching. Something just doesn't add up with the Ca issues for me though, other than I'm using an LED with no ill effect.

Matter of fact, I have tomatoes under it right now which will be calmag hogs here in a bit, but nothing so far.

3rd Monkey - check every post about spotting and/or crispy tops or leaves. See how many posting these issues are using LED.

Man, I am having some SERIOUS issues with this. It didn't start until I started Bhodi seeds but now that I think of it, I have the plants close to the leds, but they are the viparspectra ones which aren't that powerful. The part closest to the lights are fine but I have TERRIBLE calcium/phosphorus type deficiency issues and I use FF soil. I use Cali/mag with every watering and fert every other watering. Never had this issue until I started elevating them to get more light. When on the floor level, they seem perfectly fine, they are ALL experiencing the same definecy symptoms even though I flush and triple check the PH runoff, I get the same results every time. The only difference is that I have elevated them closer to the lights which I never thought was an issue since the upper leaves showed no signs of light burn/damage. This may be my problem.......it shows up as a nitrogen deficiency first, then the brown spots and purple stems and crispy leaves, moving from bottom of plant to the top.....every time.
