I wouldn't put them in the ground. I grow outdoors on the east coast and I just put them in 5 gallon buckets. But to keep critters away, right when you wake up pee in a cup and pour it AROUND the site. It will keep critters away.

here's a list of things i use.
1.pick-axe and shovel. obviously shovel:dunce: but some don't think of the pick-axe;-), it cut my hole digging time in half:-P! available at wal-mart lowe's home-depot for approx $20 new. got mine at a flea mkt used for $5 lol.
2. one 40 lb bag 'organic' (look on ingredients for worm cast content:idea:!) potting soil mix for every hole u intend to dig. (easily found at lowes home depot for approx $10/bag)
as far as your soil mix goes, you have to decide that when u dig ur holes. that's y i dig mine now. I'll be mixing in a bag of the store bought soil along w/ some wood ash (from my wood burning stove) sand, cow manure, and enough of the native soil to help fill in the hole.
3.a long handled tree pruner or a hacksaw and some climbing skills;-) OR if ur spot is secluded and u don't have to worry bout someone hearing u- a chainsaw! because while we all believe we have chosen the perfect spot....:oinevitably there's a tree branch shading ur plants come summer:cuss:. CAUSE UR IN THE WOODS!!! lol. i had to find this shit out the hard way last year and go back and it was a fuckin mess so...just take my advice and be prepared to remove troublesome branches!
4. a nice big back pack. very necessary! helps u carry stuff there AND back!! good for transporting ur starts:leaf:to the site and the trash back;-) from the site! so make sure u got a nice big pack. the bigger the better.
5. tarp(s) take a tarp w/ u when u dig ur holes and place native soil on it for mixing w/ other additves (such as the potting soil, sand, cow manure, etc..) plus, laying a tarp kepps you from piling all that soil ur digging on the surrounding plants/bushes/watevr and making it obvoius to the 'eye in the sky':cuss: that shit has been disturbed down below.
6.camo.....while this may be redundant, i am not a big hunter or camo wearing type person:lol:...usually;-)...but when i go into the woods to do my work, u'd think i was fuckin rambo or something! lmao. i wear a toboggan, an army issue camo jacket/pants and a good pair of boots.(also take some shades in case the suns shing in ur eyes while ur digging. thjat shit sucks believe me! lol) and i'm in a very secluded spot! just better to be safe than sorry my grandpappy always said:bigjoint:! lol if some shit pops off, i can drop the fuckin pack and get the fuck out of dodge:fire: and if i'm fast/sly enuff i'll have a better chance of getting away cause of my camo!!!:finger:;-)
anyway man, there's some tips from me and my experience. hope this helps ya grow pounds.
which, btw, is why i suggest u DO dig holes and don't use buckets. unless ur spots ain't secure, and u may have to move ur op around!?!
i have NEVER seen an 10 ft plant in a 5 gallon bucket:!: not saying its never happened but.... i'm just saying that eventually a plant will reach the bottom of a 5 gal. bucket and there is no bottom for a plant to reach in the ground.
alright, i'm done. later:peace::joint:bongsmilie:blsmoke::eyesmoke::bigjoint::peace:

that sounds right. It is a good thing to plant close to where you live with in walking distance and have a secluded path to and from your grow. Im starting a grow this year, so ill follow along with this. If you are able to have 10 ft plants where you are and have them not get noticed. Thats good. Plants blend in better in nature in ground. Im still not sure whether I am gonna plant in ground vs container. Im gonna have like 4 spots so maybe Ill try both. Good Luck.

doowmd good advice man!
Indeed it was.:bigjoint: I forgot to mention that. Detailed, precise, accurate. Hits for doowmd. :leaf:
Most people just give growing advice and dont know or mention how to deal with the stress and responsibility, and many other factors that go into guerilla growing.;-)
