Every time I go to the grow shop I'm blown away by the amount of up-sell, useless, and otherwise overrated nutrients. $25 for nutes for your seedlings. $50 for nutes during veg. You can spend 3 times that much on product that promises to fatten your bud during flower. Do they work? Depends on your grow. Depends how you use them. I won't advocate one method over another, but why pay all that money and flush it away at the end? ( I'm keying on soil grows here, not hydro ). For your first grow keep it simple. It's a weed after all. The reason you see a million different answers to a the same questions in all of these forums is that as long as you don't over due it you'll grow weed no matter how you do it. A grower will try a combination of things and get a great yield and swear that his way is the way to grow herb. Another dude will grow in a completely different regime and claim His is the best way to grow good bud. AND they will both back up their claims with pictures of Ginormous buds that overflow their Tupperware containers. Who's right? They both are. There is no one great way. But there are some hard and fast rules you need to follow during grow number one.
Like leave the plants alone. How many times have you looked in your tent today? Leave them alone. Be patient. Know that you'll keep buying your weed for some time to come. Some dudes, like me on my first grow, got sunburn from popping my face into the tent too often to see how the girls were doing. You probably looked at em in the last five minutes or so.
Lift up your plant. How heavy is it? Water your plant. How heavy is it? Water only when that pot is light. It's okay if they droop a little bit. They'll perk up within an hour of getting water. In an average 2 X 4 X 5 tent water every three days or so during veg. Your girls will get more thirsty when in flower. I'm at every two days in third week of flower. ALWAYS err on the side of under-watering.
If you don't want to or can't afford the high price of nutrients there are some awesome things you can feed your girls on the cheap. I use Kelp ( I'm lucky enough to live on Vancouver Island ), and molasses when I water my plants. 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses and one teaspoon of powdered kelp that I collect and dry ( you can get seaweed and kelp at grocery stores now, very cheap ). I add that to one gallon of water that has been sitting for a day or two. If your using soil and feeding like this it is way easier to maintain a healthy PH in your soil. I feed them this every watering from seed to harvest. More than likely you have a half decent soil that you are growing in with good drainage. Fox Farm Ocean Forest works well in this scenario. My girls get molasses and kelp only during veg and flower but I up the Potassium and phosphorus in the second third and fourth week of flower. I make my own dirt cheap and simple from egg shells. More free food.
Just be patient and don't over water and do not over feed. Experiment. You should not be expecting a huge yield on your first grow. You should expect to get better and you will. The pics are of nothing but bag seed babies that I am growing in FFOF w/30% perlite. There are two indica dominants and one tall lanky sativa that is pushing my LED up up and up. These plants are 16 days into flower.
