Okay for my next question whats the best 400 watt halide bulb I could buy, they range from Phillips at the home depot for $28 all the way to over $100 for the big name..

I use a powerplant SUPERVEG 400w MH in my 400 dimmable lumatek.

Decent bulb to fair and was around £20 about $27.

In the uk you can't get digital specific bulbs like DIGILUX etc so we all use pretty much one of either SUNMASTER, SYLVANIA, POWERPLANT(aka lumatek).

On a side note..how did you come up with the pot sizes? Just asking cause 3x 15 gallon pots for 400 watts worth of light seems a bit much. I do one mother plant under a 600 watt in a 15 gallon. Ample root space is definitely a good thing, but the amount of growth and transpiration of water is limited by how much light/energy the plant has access to. You dont want the grow medium to stay wet for too long in between waterings,especially in a small space, as it can lead to humidity and rot/mildew/mold issues.

I know 15 gallon seems a bit excessive, however they are all 3 reveged from being budded out in 5 gallon pots and I read everywhere and it was my understanding that when doing a reveg you must bump up pot size, also they would get root bound fairly quick I would imagine. Once I get them going really well and am pulling off some good cuts I will grow out the cuts into moms so I don't have to keep them in such big pots......I hope this makes sense, one of those things where I was unable to take cuts prior to flower and want to keep the strain alive, it was incredible

when buying a lamp(bulb) the its not the name you are paying for its the spectrum and its right on the box take a look some time thats why the cost very so much. as far a reverting a plant its just wrong.

just figure 1 1/2 gallon of soil for each month of growth regardless of lighting

Oh yeah easy.. I was thinking dude had 15. lol. wasnt feeling all that good that day & thought he said he had 15 mothers. lol But reread later to find he was planting in 15 gln containers. lol
Your cfls equivalent wattage is not the wattage you pay attention to.

8x23w=184w. Not 800w.

You could get by on the 250w MH over 3 mothers but it all depends on how many clones you need and how often you need them.

I run six moms and cloning bin(dual 4' 34w cool white tubes, horz) in a 4'x8'x8'h area using four dual 4' 34w daylight tube fixtures mounted vertically, 24/0d. I also have a 150 murcury vapour MH that is used periodically at 18/6.
Flouresent daylight tubes are the way to go with moms as with many other lighting sources the plant(s) can get light burn if they get too close to the lighting.
With todays light tubes that is 272 watts for six moms plus the ocasional 150 watts of MH and 68 watts for the cloning bin.
I use a 6'x15"x7"h hydro rock trough and timed drip feeders on my moms.
