wrapping a few coils of copper around the stems of your plants will keep slugs from getting on them. its better than slug bait/killer since that shit just attracts slugs then kills them. with this it doesnt attract any. they cant cross copper its a barrier to them as long as you dont have any branches touching the ground they cant get up. i got the wire for free and stripped it but im sure you can but it cheap. you can reuse them over and over. also make sure your soil does not cover it.

bump. sorry i hate when people do that but i thought alot of new guys can save alot of hassle with this little trick. one slug will kill a 5" plant in a night.

Maybe someone with a degree can explain it better, but many years ago I read in "Organic Gardening" about using copper "tape" around each plant.

It apparently interacts with (acidic?) soil, creating a mild electric charge that snails and slugs won't cross.

this is one way crushed up egg shells is anther but the slugo shit works the best but you have to put it out every 4 weeks.

I had done that 2 years ago with 18 plants. It helped some but wasn't foolproof.

making a ring of salt around plants was the best I'v ever used.

slugo will attract the slugs then kill them. which in turn attracts tons of flies to the dead slugs ive dione both for years and this is by far better. as long os the copper isnt covered it is foolproof. they will not cross it. mj planters are not the only ones who do this this is a garden trick older than anyone on this forum. people who do not grow tought it to me. slugo just makes a mess ive used it to much. ive never tried salt but salt would dissolve and you would keep having to put more and i dont want lots of salt in my soil. this is the same as salt to a slug.

I used water softener and ice salt so it wouldn't dissolve like table salt.I made the rings far enough around my holes that the salt wouldn't run into my soil.

Last year on the east coast ,it was the worst year for slugs most of us growers and gardeners ever seen.
The year before was when I had used the copper wire exactly like your picture.I was still getting some slugs.But my plants were in a low lying wet area in containers where the slug count was probably high compared to a regular area.

muaythaibanger i dont doubht you sorry if i can off like an ass. everyone has there ways as long as it works for you thats all that matters. just thought id share since ive grown to hate the slug bait/killer in the past years. that stuff is plain horrid. it does kill slugs but it also attracks them, from as far as they can travel it seems.

im on the east coast also and last year was a bitch. i lost plants becouse i planted them and then it rained for a straight month. they rotted in the ground. thats why this year ive taken extra measures.

Yeah I here ya about the slug bait.It does attract em.
When I used it,I tried to put the bait not to close to the plants as it does attract.Like 5-7 feet away.


Hopefully it's a good year for slugs with a dry summer from el nino

My biggest worry this year will be rabbits.Any solutions?
I'v heard irish spring or dog hairs,coyote piss.
