Ebb and Flow flood times?

Hi all.
I always thought you flood for 15/30 min every 3-4 hours when lights are on. I was reading a post and here’s what it said.
(((Hydroton rocks in net pots requires frequent flood cycles. This medium does not hold as much moisture as the above mentioned mediums. The pump can be set to either 15 min on/15 min off, 15 min on/30 min off or 15 min on/45 min off ))).
What do you experienced E/F guys think about this? I have Blueberries in Hydroton, 6” pots under a scrog, 600w HPS. I’m going to start 12/12 today. Also, is it ok for the roots to come out of the pots? Should I put Hydroton rocks in the bottom of the tray?

(The more I read, the more I don’t know)

Thanks for any input you can give.

I use hydroton filled pots... and I flood 3 or 4 times a day for 15 minutes each...

The medium is what will tell you how often...

For example I got gifted a few clones in a mix of hydroton and RW.. they can only be flooded once a day...

You get the picture...

I have the same setup and for how often you flood and drain in the case of hydroton clay and rockwool. I started from clone and have all 12 pots full of clay and clone/rw. I run flood for 15min at 12:00am an 12:00pm two times a day. Then as soon as you see roots come out the botom you flood and drain three times a day up till the last month were you flood and drain 4 times a day. There that's how it should work

If you are using RW IN THE POTS with the hydroton you should only flood once a day....

I usually skip a day every once in a while until they are in full flower..

RW holds a lot of water if you flood it too often you may have problems...

i use 3x3 rockwool cubes in 8" pot filled with hydroton, watering 1 min(till the tray is full) every 4 hours until light goes off. Roots are white and plants grow fast and healthy.

You can get a digital timer at Wal-Mart for under $20. Worth it.
