ebb and flow hydroton with or without net cups

I have a 4x4 flood table with a 50 gal res. I was just going to dump all the hydroton in there but my grow shop had suggested I might want to use net cups instead. He said the cleanup would be easier. What are the differences between these two methods? I will be doing sog so I will have small plants. Do I place any hydroton in between the net cups? Would this allow me to move my plants if I needed to vacate the area for a day?

I have done it both ways...either is fine. I had no issues at all with or without the cups.
