Ebb & Flow No Pots

Hello All,

I have grown four crops using a Baby Bloomer ebb & flow system, which has 10 five-inch pots in it.

This time I bought feminized seeds and plan to do a scrog. Since I won't have to weed out any males, can I not use the pots and just fill the tray with hydroton?

It seems to me that the pots just restrict root grow but are important if you have to move your plants around. With feminized seeds and the scrog method I shouldn't have to do that.

Is there any reason that I shouldn't remove the pots and go with a tray full of hydroton and rockwool plugs?

I use 6 6inch pots in my ebb and flow. But i was wondering, once the roots start coming out of the pots and the light hits them, wont that be bad?? Should i have hydroton surrounding the pots, so when the roots come out they can grow through the surrounding hydroton???
Any help would be nice!

Whats the point of using the pots at all in a flood and drain using wool and hydroton?

You use lot less hydroton. You can move your plants around. Easier to clean the system. Lots of reasons.

haha if u did this with small dirt pots u could water twice a day instead of 10+ times and the pots would actually be better becuase if one dies or get root rot u can remove it will out damaging the other plants and also your plants will want 2 grow into each other more, id say try 8 inch coco blocks or wool, coco blocks seem very ligit i mite try these and mix it half n half with organic soil

dirt, soil, flood n drain? you water clay pebbles about 3-4 times a day, rockwool 1-2, soil you water every few days, water it twice a day and you wont have plant very long, as for root rot problems, why would you get those?

haha if u had 8 inch coco grow bags in a flood n drain system ur plants would be huge 6x6cubed rock wool sea of green or sumthing like that would be savage. my plants survive hot indoor climates reached 101 the other day cuze the ducting came apart .78- 85 is normal. dirt can with stand more heat and less watering seems 2 be my point. as for root rot it would be nice 2 move the dam plant outa the mix if your growing together, ive heard some plants take in more water than others and u may as so have plants that over grow the small ones and they wont get light any way, ive had minor root rot problems but i have never killled a plant except when i kill them intentionaly haha now this gives me an idea for a timed drip system for dirt,thanks for the attitude. what kind of dirt are you using?

Theres no attitude there buddy, just questions. The soil i just finshed up in was botanicares new organicare aeration forumula. Ammended with more coco, organicare slow release granules, and bio-tone. Only had to feed the plants maybe twice while flowering. Cubes work good in ebb n flo but i dont think the growth rate is any different plus you have to worry about roots coming out the bottom, but if you have different strains in your ebb n flo then pots wouldnt be a bad idea, i use ebb n flo for SOG, to maximize yeild. I do agree with you on coco, its good stuff, im about to start 4 coco hempy buckets, or considering some type of wick system, havent figured it out yet.

haha yeah i was just messing around. i dont really trust botanicare 2 much but i like the sunshine #4 and fox farm products my next dirt grow will contain 1/5 pearlite 1/5 coco/ 1/5 ocean forest 1/5 happy frog and 1/5 power flower. i think a flood an drain dirt system would be savage all the propeties of organic in an easy 2 water recirculating system. i would have iut water once a day be fore the lights come on.if u usd a digital tim er u could program it 2 skip a couple days or maybe 15 mins per morning. yeah time release is th easyist and most logicall becuse plants normally grow in dirt with food near the root system but thats what liquid nutes are for haha good growing peace btw good luck with the ebb n flow i would think the pots with the net at the bottom of it would be suffice and mybe hydroton at the bottom around the pots what i would do is just get a buch 6x6x6 rock wool and fill it

Im also using ebb and flow, but i have 6 6" round pots, so there is space between the pots. I am concerned that the roots coming out of these pots into the empty space will get hit by light. is a little light for roots a bad thing???
