Edible Help - Decarboxylation

There are a lot of questions about decarbing and everyone has their favoret way. I do it several different ways depending on whatever.

Decarbing on the stovetop. This is a very good and easy way. You can use the double boil method except NOT WITH WATER. Water won't get hot enough. Use MENIRAL OIL.
After the menerial oil reaches about 255 reduce the heat to a low flame, put a pint jar in with about an oz of herb. The jar needs a lid with a hole for a therometer.

You will need two thermometers that read well over 242F, one for the jar and one for the oil.

It will take longer than you think for the temp in the jar to come up to 242F but after it does wait 40 minutes and take it off.

You can also use a setup that looks like this. I use this both on the stovetop and oven.

I also infuse the the same way except at 160F to 180F.

One VERY big secrect that everyone should know is that the way to control the temp is with mass.
Ont the stovetop use a large pot to hold a constant temp. In the oven I have two large case iron skillets to hold heat. Just get the temp constant befor putting the weed in.

Do you know of any way to maybe recover or help fix the butter I just made, like can I put it in the oven in a mason jar?
You can just heat the budder you've made to 250F and look for fine bubbles starting around 235. If there is any water trapped in the budder it will of course start boiling off at 212F but with large bubbles typical of boiling water. Once the fine bubbles stop the decarb is complete so continuing will begin to break the THC down to CBN which will make the budder have more of a couch-lock feel. You need a decent thermometer, (I have lab thermometers but after testing now just use the infrared one I got on sale at Canuck Tire for $20 a few years ago), and good control over your heat source so I use a hotplate with a wire screen on the element to reduce chances of scorching. An oil bath is even better.

I always decarb after the fact whether making budders or concentrated oils to help preserve terpenes that get lost when pot is baked openly in the oven before extraction. All cannabinoids will be extracted into the carrier oil whether decarbed or not so decarbing before infusing is not a prerequisite.

Just using your budder to make cookies with should complete the decarb if it's not done yet but you could be one of those people who just don't get high from edibles. I sure AF do. :)

I like this method too (decarbing right in the oil). Crock pot on high for ~2 hours (or 30-60 mins after it gets to 240F), then turn down to low overnight, then strain in the morning. Easy peasy.

I've also started adding a few grams of pure CBD isolate while it's cooking. Definitely improves the effect IMO

I make epic gummies that floor most grow men with high tolerance but I know a few people who they just don't touch. Yet those same people can smoke and get high af .
Very odd
I just ordered 2 gummie moulds. 1-THC and 1-CBD, on sale for $40 each but it's in the states so after exchange and shipping it's costing me almost $150Can. 192 - 4ml cavities each so each batch needs to be 768ml at least to fill them all.

Was wondering what you are using for a recipe and how much does it make? I have one that uses 500g of Jello that should be big enough but looking at a few to figure out the best way to go. Want to do some in chocolate as well. Made some chocolate CBD ones in some cheap moulds recently that work pretty good but only 15 - 5ml cavities each and not cannabis branded like the ones I'm waiting for.

So is it possible to get that amount of flower into 1 or 2 sticks of butter? Ive never really messed around with making edibles and apparently I need real high doses.
You need all the butter for the weed to cook right... The cooking process is a long one... One stick of butter wouldn't do anything but burn up,I would think... I'd never try it though...

I don't bother making budders from bud or sugar trim anymore. I'm just going to turn everything into oil then use that for whatever I want to make like budders, gummies, topicals etc. I'm going to use naphtha but good old ISO makes a good oil for edibles.

If you could make dry sift then you could use that in butter or any carrier oil to get a higher concentration of cannabinoids into easier than using whole bud. Don't toss the bud after sifting tho as there's still lots of goody in it.

For butter, I think decarbing bud is best. Rough grind or break open by hand
I find it leaves less vegetal taste behind than trim.
For oil in capsules I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Since I’m simmering the plant product in hot water, it’s a slow decarb during the process (heat over time). The simmering water also breaks down the plant material, making it easier to attach to the fat in the butter or whatever you’re using.
All of these will work.
Just remember: clarify the butter first and dispose of the milk solids.
Then you have 99% fat. The plant matter will settle while the cannabinoids will suspend.

Are milk solids what give you that strange half water/butter layer between the water and the butter when it's frozen?

I have 2 tried and true methods:

decarb in oven @ 225 for 50 minutes

With butter, however, I typically do not decarb but rather use the Ghee method, melt butter in water, bring to boil, add weed, boil 10 minutes, simmer over night. That’s the short explanation.

You can also do a quick infusion for coking directly in a pan, I’ve only read about this though, never attempted it.

That's just gunge like waxes and other stuff that won't dissolve in the water and isn't oil soluble either so just floats to the top of the water layer before it freezes. If the butter wasn't clarified then those milk solids would probably end up there tho.

Personally I prefer coconut or MCT oil for those that don't like the taste of coconut and would prefer a liquid. Both are vegan for those that care as well. Much longer shelf life than butter too. I don't use any water when making mine from fresh or dried buds.
