Supporting the policealot of people ask this... there more likely to call and ask you if they can upgrade your system for your new power needs...as long as you pay they don't give a shit. i can almost guarantee the power company is breaking the law much more so than you.
no, I couldnt get the page to load, but it's that link I threw at the end. It explains alot more about how they (hydro) get computer based red-flags on suspicious electricity consumption, in turn, handing it over to the pigs to conduct an investigation, and perhaps a search warrant, they can usually get one based on just a little more evidence, ex. humming sound, smell, light leaks, etc... so anyways they are much more working with the pigs these days, or so all the information points that way... I guess most of us just rely on the fact that alot of people are doing it and we are counting on not getting pinpointed until we crop it/ tear it down. anysmall grower, let's say 2000 watts and lower is most likely fine, the bill won't be that bad and no red flags will appear but 4000 watts? not so sure!that mostly looks like narks telling/HUGE grows/and people stealing power.
Ofcorse there gonna assist tho if they get asked by the cops.
1000 watts from a coffee maker? really? I think it has alot to do with amps being drawn alsoCoffee makers tend to run 900-1000w and just think of how many people drink coffee all day long.
very scary, never heard of this. where is the technology based from?? do you have a link for us?Just wait until Smart Grid gets widespread. Electrical loads have "signatures" so they will be able to tell what type of load you are running. If this load comes on at say 08:00 and off at 20:00, it would raise suspicion because they can tell that a 1000 watt or whatever inductive or high freq load activated and deactivated repetitiously during the month. Scary.
Supporting the police
As required under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, "my local hydro" responds to more than 5,000 requests a year from police, providing consumption information on specific locations in connection with ongoing criminal investigations of suspected grow-ops. We respond to requests within 24 hours.
Partnering with Crime Stoppers
Our investigators also receive addresses of suspected grow-ops reported to Crime Stoppers. This information assists our investigators in confirming energy thefts and recovering funds
local governments and law enforcement are all working to put a stop to electricity theft in residential neighbourhoods. With your help, we can do better in the fight against operations that steal electricity for marijuana grow-ops, which are a threat to public safety and " where I live " conservation efforts.
I took all this off the homepage of my local electricity company. They admit that they will assist, with no problems, at any time, with power consumption bills of any address that may be a suspected grow op.
They also red-flag your account if your power goes high at night say for, 12 hours, then is lower in the day. They report this to the police.

apparently you didnt read that thoroughly or go to the link. It has to do with hydro flagging people using lotsa power and sending it to the police. My buddies parents had high power consump. ( no grow ) and the cops came banging on the door. They said hydro had reported it. My point is that. That relates mostly to Electricity theft, a lot of large scale grow ops steal there power and thats how they get caught, no money in but a large amount of power out makes the electricity companies suspicious. Pay your bills and don't go crazy with lights.
