Electric fence

I put up an electric fence around my vegetable garden to keep moose at bay. It's worked well for years. I put in a solid ground around the perimeter. An eight foot ground rod at every corner, looped together with #4 copper and that's tied to the buzz box. Fence strands are 12" apart and they're all hot. The only problem I've had is that they were able to push through the aluminum wire and break it before the shock deterred them. Replaced the aluminum with stainless steel wire and haven't had moose in the garden again. BTW- because the "ground" is at the fence perimeter and not alternating hot/earth strands on the fence, any wire touched is a shocker. And it's a real jolter after a rain or in the morning dew.

this is a deer not a moose. iv seen deer run as fast as they can and threw them selfs on the ground and slide under the.and also jump 12ft fence

You are not going to kill any animal with a modern electric fence. They all send out pulses at 1 second intervals, this is a safety feature installed by all manufacturers. Futhermore, while the more powerful chargers will kill vegetation and can tolerate vegetation touching the wires, they do not work like the old-timey "weed burner" chargers. The old fence chargers were a fire hazard.

Electric fence installations can very widely in their effectiveness. Success is dependent on:

1. How badly the animal wants the food on the other side of the fence.
2. How much juice the fence charger puts out. (Chargers rated "predator" are max. level of exclusion.)
3. Whether the animal has "learned" how the fence works. (An animal can penetrate the fence in under 1 second.)

In the case of MJ, the small solar fence chargers can work on deer as long as the fence is installed prior to the plants being planted. On the downside, low powered chargers of this type will not deter dogs, raccoons, etc that are after your buried organic fertilizers. You need a "predator" level charger to keep these animals out.

Hy guys, i'm an outdoor grower and i had a beautiful place this year, but the only problem was deer. They ate a lot of my plants, so i was thinking of putting eather a tall fence or an electric fence. Has anybody tried the electric fence idea? If so, did it help?
It will work, but keep in mind that deer can jump as high as 6' that I have seen, maybe higher if they really wanted to.
I even had deer standing on hind legs to eat plums from my Japanese plum tree.
Don't use Alaska Morbloom outdoors, as I have read horror stories about that too.
It seems to be great stuff, but will attract anything with four legs within miles.
My grandfather used to use chicken wire around his garden, along with blood meal hanging in bags from stakes, or I hear human hair has the same effect.

I use electric fences here to keep in the cows. A solar one needs a car battery with it. You will have to drive a couple grounding rods 4 feet deep in the ground to hook your negative to. It keeps in cows it will keep out deer. It won't kill anything. Use several strands and keep them 10 " apart. Good luck and never piss on an electric fence, take my word for it.

Grew up until 14 on a cattle ranch in west Texas. We used to get "city slickers" that would visit and some brought kids our age. We would trick them into eating a chile from our garden, giving lots of water to help them and then get them to pee on an electric fence.
It's amazing how gullible some people are.
I dared one of my buddies to do that a few years back, and he was pissed (no pun intended) at me for months.
