Electrical help & costs on hps

i did have a 600w hps and an electric heater running on my last grow.

not sure if it was the heater or the 600w that was putting a dent in my elec bill. either way, im probably going to be looking at using it again because of the weather. im going to be keeping costs down and yeilds up hopefully.

could anybody tell me how much its going to cost a month to run:

1) 600w hps
2) 2x 600w hps
3)1000w hps

im in UK using 240 volt supply, elec is 11 pence per KW.

havnt got any information on the elec heater so i cant expect any cost to be worked out.

would i need any other electrical equipment for the lights? i did have a surge protector in my socket and a relay on a timer which my 600 hps was connected to. not sure if id need anything else for two 600watt'ers or a 1000.

thanks

im not sure if electricity converts the same in the us to the uk. but my 400w hps and 2 x 100w added about $35. but i only use them for flowering right now. so i assume it would go up from there. and it sounds like you have all the precautions to keep the bill down anyway.

happy harvest

Here you go boss. Plug and play. I get 23.76 quid/pound/euro/pence/UK buck or however you people count your money, lol.....Seriously for the 600W running 12 hours per day @11 pence per = £23.76 per month. Sound about right?

yeah that sounds about right, thanks.

do you have any idea how to work out an electric heater cost? all i know is that its a 1500watt heater, coil heater i think... all of them are?

If you want to up your yield in relation to your power usage ditch the heater and create two light seperate rooms that have their 600w lamps on 12/12 alternating cycles but ventilate between the two so they both are kept warm and exhaust fans only come on when it's too hot via simple thermostat.

Little space heaters can burn just as much energy as your hps, but that energy is non productive.

watts / volts = amp also watts = volts * amps

That's 12.5 amps. Breakers (in USA) typically handle around 20 amps at 120 volts.

1500 watt would be 1.5 kWh, that's how you're typically charged for power.

Another way to think of it is 15 x 100 watt bulbs. At $5 per 100W(.1kWh) bulb running 24/7 for a month... That'd be around $75/month for your heater.

You probably do not need a heater if your temps are significantly above freezing. Lights alone should produce enough heat for this to be true.

thanks for that.

my grow room is a shed outside, not insulated. i did need a heater for lights off, dark period last time.

however it should start to warm up soon so i probably wont need it.

thanks for ur help. eek at 75 dollars a month, which is i think £50

Well, say 10 cents/kWh. That 100 watt bulb uses 72 kWh/month running 24/7(720 hours total). That's actually $7.20. 1500 watt 24/7 for a month... $108.

Thanks! Good luck with your grow(and power bill).

Main reason I use floros, they're really efficient and cheap!

4 hours(darkness/heat) a day is only 180 kWh/month. 240 kWh/month for the HPS.

Your 12/12 though... and 12 hours of heat... 540 kWh/month. 144 kWh/month HPS....

24/7 heat would be 1080 kWh/month. Ouch.

220W of floros 24/7 is 158 kWh/month. ;)
