Electrical help needed for running 24O to room

I found a subpanel w 24ov wire,which has 4o amps each but the guy who built it said he ran 7 x 1k on it and it never tripped but when he ran 8 it did.
So this panel has 8 outlets/each duplex has its own 2o amp breaker,and all sockets are 12ov.....So can I run my 6 x 1k 12O v lights on this and do i wire it up to a 4o amp breaker? Thnks again,hbr

6x 1000=6000 w 6000w/120v=50 aka 50 amps. So no you are not rated for this much amperage. 40 amp sub panel is only rated for 4800 w. Two things . Make sure neutrals and grounds are separated at the subpanel. Also .run the right wire for it . It is a number 8 gauge.

I am not quite sure what you mean by this post?

heres a copy of the specs for it he gave me
"neat and clean 40amp timer boards. These are wired for 40a/240v in (240 is just 2 x 120 lines BTW), and breaks down to 4 - 20a/120v circuits (see pic). Each duplex(set of outlets) is on it's own breaker! "

I didn't see any attachments or pictures but if I understand you correctly you have 4 dual plug outlets that are 20amps at 120v each. Are you going to be running your lights 240 or 120? This will work fine for you if you are going to have the lights be 120.

Now you do understand that the box doesn't have any electricity in it, it will only preform the way you need it to if you have enough available electricity to hook that up as a subpanel. It is very possible that all of your power is used up and you don't even have room for a sub-panel at all no matter what type it is.

My first thought would be if you have 100amp service you are going to have to upgrade your "service" to run as many lights as you want to. Not exactly sure how you are doing everything but I would think you would need a minimum of a 100amps just for your grow, let alone everything else in your house. So I would look into getting 200 amp service for your house with a couple of 50 amp runs into your grow of 240 and 120 mixed.

Your right 240 is just three wires: white, black, copper. white to copper or black to copper is 120 and white to black is 240. So yes it is kind of two 120s. Hope all this jiberish helps

I cant find the pic,but yes i Have 6x1k lights @ 12ov,but thought i had to buy 6 x lights@24o in order to run all 6.My original idea ws to run a 6o amp sub to the room and plug all new 24o v lights into it...
Then i found this timer this guy built,and thought it would be nice to not have to buy new lights and use the ones i have.
Each 4o amp panel has 8 outlets w 12ov outlets,he saaid i should be able to run 6 x1k+13 amp ac no problem on it.Im confused,cause i thought 6 x 1k@12ov=6o amps and 6x1k@24o=3o amps....but hes said the main wire going to the panel is 24o so is this really like a 8o amp panel? Lol sorry for any confussion...
he said they both pull the same amount of power12o/24o
So by using 24o subpaanel/lights i wouldnt be using anyless power from my main,than 12o...so why is the sub ran to the min with 24ov?

Well I will certainly upgraade my service come fall but right now im pretty broke,and am going to most likely have to do any running of wires etc as all my electrician buddies are busy...

So since im using a flip flop box i only need room for 6 ballasts that will always be on
rooma in the day/room b @ night..
That with the 13 amp a/c should put me at 73 amps needed?

If you open your ballasts they should be able to be rewired for 240 if they have multiple taps on the windings.

If you go with the panel it will prob work just remember you will only have 25 amps left over for your house, but I guess you could just run the lights at night and keep a very close eye on the wires and make sure they don't get too hot. If this is happening it isn't good, you don't want your house to be the next house with a bunch of lights that has caught fire. Hope this helps
